after a good thing to show cpu temp
 

Yeha hi all iam after a device not a program that can accuratly show my cpu temp
ive used cpuidle and cpucool but id like a actual hardware like panel showing the temp
also i have a Soltek Mobo sl-75kav so if anyone can point me in the direction of anything that wil show me my real cpu temp be a great help i know u can get a lcd like temp monitor for asus boards but just asking if theres one that will work with alll boards

The LCD monitor for ASUS boards isn't the best as it still uses the relatively inaccurate surface mount thermister on the motherboard.

The cheapest option is if you have an ASUS board, you likely have a JTPWR jumper for adding a power supply thermister. The thermister is about $5.00 from ASUS and is the flat style which can easily be mounted up against the slug to give very accurate readings. You will also need MBM5 or another program as the ASUS Probe will not show these values.

The second option if you want a display on the case which you can always read is a CompuNurse. There about $15.00, require a battery and also are very accurate using the same flat style thermister. The disadvantages are that the don't interface with the computer, so theres no software logging or shutdown. The advantages are you can read it easily while in Quake :)

Lastly there are DigiDocs. Relatively expensive at around $80.00, but they monitor voltages as well as eight temperatures, and allow setable fan control for each! With this fan control you can also wire small relays to control shutdown, high low fan speeds, etc. The DigiDoc is a full panel like the AsusPanel, with a large very cool looking orange back-lit display, and include two flat style thermisters for slug temperatures, and six bell style thermisters which work well taped to surfaces


Oh Ya, just to warn, when I say up against the slug I mean the core's side. Make sure that any thermister is not between the core and heatsink, or holding the heatsink from contacting the core. Your new probe would then show a one time high :)

Of course mine is a little different. I used RED and green LEDs, put in a back light so I could see it at night and nicks the front a little with a dremal.

One thing though, buy at least one quality thermistor, the kind they use for measuring CPU temps on some Socket A boards. RatShack ones suck. I had to toss one because it consistantly read 10C over the others. Meanwhile another shattered. Not to mention they are too big to fit near the CPU die.
