new to h20 couple ?'s
Well. I want to build my own res out of that clear plastic cylinder. Can you tell me what to bond it with, and what to make caps out of. Also intake and outake placement ideas woud help too.
Is the Black ice extreme good enough to cool a hot athlon xp with lets say 2 86cfm panaflos and a maze 3? is a 350 danner pump ok to use also? What type of heatcore should i check out that isnt too big. Thanks a lot for your help! |

BI: it's good enough with just 1 fan Danner: those pumps are known to leak, and need seal work. Try a maxijet or a Eheim. heatercore: d-tek sells one which is nice and "not too big", they also make a shroud for it. Or else you can look at a local scrap yard. |
do you know where i the best place to buy clear pvc tubing for a res is, ill check my hardwares store soon. Also, is it really worth it to toss all that money into the eheims? I was hoping to spend a bit less than that on a pump. Is the 1048 adequate flow?

I would really like to know where to buy clear PVC. I'm in Europe.
If you're in U.S. try US Plastics they have everything. The Eheim 1048 is more than enough for a normal config. Yes it's worth spending the extra money. The pump is the heart of a WC system. One wouldnt want to get a 'cheap' heart... For the rad things are a bit different, since most efficient rads (ie heater cores) are cheaper than 'retail' products such as BI. |
PVC has a tint,
Clear = Acrylic or Polycarb |

I think that there should be a poll/stickyto answer this type of thing. First poll to see what all the users think is the best of the best for all the components (rad/res/pumps/tubing/etc.). Then post a sticky that has the most popular votes equaling the most popular "ultimate cooling system". Brad....whaddya think?
TO answer your questions though, the Eheims are great. I have the 1048, and am running at about 8°C-14°C above ambient (high end is under load - UT). If you're still a little prickled about the price, I have heard good things about the ViaAqua pumps, and they are pretty cheap. The BIX seems to be pretty popular, and, I think, more than good enough to cool the AXP. Heater core's are also very good. As far as the PVC, they should make caps to go with it, and you'd want to just use PVC cement (assuming that it is actually PVC. |
Hey guys i really appreciate all the input. A few quick questions, heatercores generally perform better than the BiX's rev 2 right?
Also, I searched but where can i get a heatercore from? I found a few sites that sell rad's but they all are high priced and I dont know which type/model of car to choose to get a reasonably sized radiator. Also tygon or silicon tubing? |
There are a lot of heatercores to choose from at auto parts places online. They are in the $20-$30US range. Pick one that will fit in your case if that is what you are going for. Dimensions are usually given and if not you could email them for it. Tygon is the prefered tubing but costs a little more. Also be aware that most heatercores have long inlet and outlet tubes and you may have to change them to barbs to fit in your case.

most auto parts store that have stores online, at least those i have visited, require you to give the make and year of a car to find a radiator. I would need to know which types of cars to look for to find a heatercore in my price range. Could you recommend a make please? Im not having much luck.
*edit actually from reading some more ive got some ideas How do you guys recomending cleaning out a radiator from a junkyard? I remember someone mentioning clr, but that would knock loose any junk built up inside. |
