Tygon Tubing
1 Attachment(s)
I just received 10' of Tygon tubing (Formulation 3603). This stuff rocks! It totally exceeded my expectations. Crystal clear and extremely flexible.
The thing that really impressed me is that it has tremendous gripping power. I placed the tubing on one end of my air trap and It adhered to the barb like it was glued on...Great stuff!! |
yeah i will always use tygon...wait till u put it on a 5/8 plastic barb.u will have to cut it off...lol
|
I hear 3/8" tygon tubing can go over 1/2" barbs, do you think that is true?
|
Yes, I have 3/8 Tygon on my 1/2 barbs and I had to lube it up to get it on.
I fear the day I have to take it off. |
I've got 3/8" tygon on 1/2" barbs as well. I found the best way to do it was to grip the tygon with a small piece of cloth - you can push a lot harder on the tubing then without your hand slipping (a thin piece of cotton does NOT slip on tygon, and it's easier on your hands). I think I'll be able to pull it off the same way, but I haven't tried yet.
Yes - Tygon does kick much ass. |
I got mine the other day too and I will never go back, it's simply the best tubing you can get and the 1/2 inch fits over my 5/8 barbs.
|
I had hella time trying to get 3/8 over my BI Pro (1/2), in the end I just couldn't and used 1/2 tygon for that section. The BI barbs inlets are different than normal barbs. Anyone else been able to do it?
|
The thickwalled tygon is great. The thinwalled stuff is utter crap IMO, lol. It streches and leaks on my barbs if I re-use it. OTOH, I have already replaced half of my tubing with 3/8th thickwalled and that stuff is awesome. The bend radius is amazing, and like everybody else, I fear taking having to take it off :)

I'm using the 3/8" thinwall, and as I said above I like it. IMHO the thin-wall looks a lot better than the thick-wall, and I have no problems with kinking/etc.
I've got one very small leak where it attaches to my rad (the only fitting that is a 3/8" one - the rest are 1/2") but only if I put pressure on the hose in just the right direction, and it's in a spot where the hose-clamp comes together and doesn't put pressure on the tube properly. I think I'm going to try and find some different/better hose clamps and it should fix that problem. I just hope I can change the clamps without draining/refilling the system. |

Didn't take it as an insult, just a different opinion. I just posted mine up so anyone questioning what to get can get opinions/stories from both sides. Thin and thick-wall both have their advantages/disadvantages, both have good and bad points.
IMHO thin looks nicer, but at the same time, it kinks easier. I don't have any kinks in my system, but I don't have any sharp bends either. I do have problems on my pump intake - the negative pressure of the pump suction actually causes the thin-wall tubing to collapse in on itself - I fixed that with a wee bit of spiral-wrap, and it's in a place where you can't see it through the window. If I was to do it again, I'd probably use thin-wall for some places, and thick for others. But I needed to order min 10' and I didn't want 10' of each. If anyone else in the Edmonton area wants to order 10' of thick-wall and trade 5' to me for 5' of thin - PM or e-mail me. |
Thx Cova. My original post was rather confusing after thinking about it because it sounded like I was using all 3/8th tubing, which wasn't the case. But yea, everybody has different views. I kinda like the look/feel of the thickwall myself.
A question tho, how much is shipping usually from usplastics (if that's where you ordered)? McMaster's prices seem slightly higher, but I don't remember being charged extra for shipping. |
No idea - I ordered from McMaster, and I seem to remember needing to buy 10'. I know I have a fair bit of extra at home now, but I think I'll be able to sell most of it at Fragapalooza in a couple weeks.
