Mini Fridge
 

ive got this new idea i might want to try out. heres a ascii digram

In other words, the raditor is inside the fridge and back to the computer. a mini fridge is only 70 bucks and not a huge loss... 70 bucks for a mini fridge is not bad at all. super cooled rads and yummy cold sodas. how can you loose.

He he... your drinks might not be as cold as you think...

You can expect to have to dissipate 100 to 150 Watts of heat right into that fridge. Can it handle it?

Many people have used fridges, but they've ripped the cooling elements off, so that they can cool the water directly. Most of the time, it works...

Using a fridge requires the fridge to run 24/7, which most cant handle and eventually fail.

so your saying a fridge cant opperate 24/7? that is one cheap ass fridge. just get a higher end fridge.

Fridges dont run continuously. Whenever the temp inside rises above a certain point the fridge turns on. When you have something inside the fridge that continuously produces heat it forces the fridge to run nonstop, especially with a pelt. Ive seen it done before, and it does work, there are just better methods of cooling.

True... the compressor only turns on when the temperature runs above a certin tempature inside the fridge.

That's why you have that little dial in there :P Basically the foam in the walls of the fridge is what keeps the temperature relativly constant.

You know that whole myth about a fridge not being able to run 24/7 isn't true. In certain situations yes, it can't run constantly. If the compressor gets to hot it will lock up. As long as the compressor temputure stays at a reasonable operating temp your fine.

Example. We have a deep freeze in our garage. The avg garage temp is 95F. The deep freeze has run non stop every day since we bought it 10 years ago. The only break it gets is during the night, and it still runs 75% of the time.

If you want lower temps you should turn it into a chiller. Just putting the radiator in it will not be nearly as effective.

It won't work.. you are very far off in your idea's..

To make that frige work you would need to rip the metal shell off.. to expose the condensor coils so you can cool them better.. then you need to put a fan on the compressor..

Then it will work.

might as freggin well make your computer a fridge... rip off everything not needed and stick it inside the computer.. but i guess its a idea shot down by the techs.

Your best idea is to get that mini frige and strip it down...

But then you are paying 70 dollars for basically just the compressor..

When you can easily get a compressor from an AC unit or dehumidifer thrown out in the garbage.. But then it's going to be an older unit which is like R-22 or R-12.. So in the long run it's better to get that 70 dollar frige and basically pay 70 for just the compressor because it will be a new frige which runs on R-134a which is easily obtainable at any wal-mart or auto store for about 5 dollars a 12oz can.. unlike the 60 dollars you would have to pay at an auto repair place or something for 16oz of r-22 or what not.. You get the drift.

R-12 and R-22 = hard to get

R-134a = very easy and cheap to obtain.. and work with.
