Does this sound right for a gpu?

http://www.telusplanet.net/public/fo...202%20loop.jpg

The thing is is that my gf3 ti 200 which is conected to an ehiem 1046 pump and black ice pro rad has a horribly high temp of 49c [32c ambient] Any ideas as to why its so hot?

My cpu[xp1600@1800mhz 1.85 vcore] is right where I expected at 9-11 c over ambient with the b.i.e and via aqua 1300,it drops about 2-3 c when i use the heater core [which doesnt fit in this case]

The rest is at Amdmb

well how do you have the h20 loops configured... parallel or what, combination of everything... whatever

try reseating the gpu block, making sure its got good contact... might need to do some lapping

Foxx 07-13-2002 01:15 PM

They are two seperate loops.
The geforce loop consists of the black ice pro rad above the psu, the cpu-fx gpu block[has 2 90degree corners for the nipples] ,an ehiem 1046 and inoveck resivior in my drive bays [about 1.6 feet of head].Only the vidio card is connected to this loop.I have changed vidio cards to a gf2 ultra so i am positive it cant be seated any better.. however I am still at 45c.I was thinking that it may be that the 1046 simply does not have enough balls

RedTalon19 07-13-2002 01:58 PM

strange indeed. i also think it must be the pump, although i cant remeber the exact gph on it.... if you can check the water temps some how, see if its warm at all, cuz if it is then you know the rad is the problem. if the block is warm to the touch then you know the pump just cant handle it... if neither then its gotta not be seated right or something else is really screwy

edit - heh post #69

Foxx 07-13-2002 02:25 PM

the rad is cool to the touch...I cant realy take the water temp on that loop the way i have it set up... the back side of the gpu is very hot as well about 3c less then the dig doc reports...

Since this is the first time I have a gpu cooled on its own with water and a temp monitor I just was not to sure if this was normal or not... I was expecting about 2-4 c over ambient.

That pump is rated at 79 gph but it keeps up with my rio 180[120 gph]

RedTalon19 07-13-2002 02:33 PM

hmmm 80gph with 2 90 degree elbows plus whatevers in the block itself..... hell my eheim 1048 could barley keep up with my maze1, DD original cooling cube plus 1 90 degree elbow.... it was like >20gph on that setup

Foxx 07-13-2002 02:55 PM

Ah yes however I had used that pump/rad combo in the same place as it is now to cool my xp1600@1750 mhz[black edge water block3/8ths] and had only about 13c over ambient temps... there is about an extra 6-8 inches of hose now[and a bit more head] and the two 90 degree nipples on the 1/2inch gpu block ... it is probbly the pump however a 3/8ths block may help to improve temps as well.
Back to the drawing board lol:)

aslo its worth mentoning that every GPU I have seen was extreemly low in the center. I mean very bad concave. U might want to check that.

pHaestus 07-14-2002 08:59 PM

Fixittt is dead right; they usually need a light lapping.

Foxx 07-14-2002 09:07 PM

I do have a fair amount of as3 in the center of the gpu die and it left a nice inprint when I checked it.I did find that the ambient above the rad is about 3 c higher then the main rad.I am down to around 12 c over ambient now,it took awhile to settle in...I still think that a ehiem 1048 would be a better choice of a pump for this situation tho as the block is a 1/2 and everything else is 3/8ths either that or try a 3/8ths block instead.

Foxx 07-15-2002 05:59 PM

Well it must be still settleing in...its down to 9.4c over ambient now..Very strange as to why it is still after 3 days dropping in temps...I have not changed anything and I started out at 17c over ambient with this card.I can see a few c for the a.s to settle in but but 8.6?

Interestingly If I turn off the fan for the vidio card rad ,I only rise up another 6 c.. and of coarse have less noise:)
