Gemini Cool Standard Flow
 

I know everyone's talking about the spiral, but I really like the gemini cool wb on dtek's page for two reasons

1) I'm using an Eheim 1048 right now, 158GPH on paper

2) its nice and small, and looks great

Anyone know how well it performs? caveats? I have a MAZE2 now, which I think is more suited towards higher flowrates, so I want to see if a wb with smaller channels would be better.

Oh, and its apparently sold out on dtek's page. what's up with that?

2. I bought the high-flow model and I think it's perfect for a 1048. Never tried the low flow.

3. Not sure that it's worth upgrading from a MAZE2. No more than 2C difference.

the maze2 is the worst block I've ever used. Temps on it range from 2-4C higher than on my BeCooling JaggedEdge block that happens to be cheaper. I'll think heavily before buying another dangerden block. I too am looking at the geminicool blocks, the dude that owns the place has offered to sell me one with a custom copper top for my next peltier project. The reviews of them on Overclockers certainly make them look good and I'm hoping I'll have as good luck if I do decide to get one.

My experience with Gemini is very bad. I have two normal flow wb for for dual XP1700+ on Asus A7M266-D, and one gemini chipset wb and video chip wb.

After a couple times of pulling the hose, the plastic top cracks like hell. The first one was video wb, then chipset wb, then one of the CPU wb. I end up by making some alumni top by myself, but my seal using epoxy maybe not a good choice (the original gemini wb is sealed with silicon glue). One day I came back from work, and found all water are gone!!! The CPU with my alumni top leaks. :-( Luckily Asus has CPU overheat protection, the CPU was in sleeping mode and the temp is about 52C when I found all of these. I really should feel lucky since no hardware is damaged.

Now I'm ordering all wb (2 Maze-2 and one chipset, one video)from Danger Den, I need all copper solution! Is Maze-2 that bad? Please advise me. I can call danger den to change to Maze-3 with copper top before they ship.

No the danger den maze2 performs quite well however it's design is showing it's age. There are allot newer designs out there that perform a small amount better. The thing to remember is that not everybody has the exact same experiance and it varies from moterboard to motherboard depending on how acurate your motherboard is.

final verdict? should I get the gemini cool blocks? I think they'll be find performance-wise, but the pulling off hose-poly top cracking problem previously mentioned is very disconcerting. Is this an issue for other poly-top wbs, spiral, maze3, etc?

Not with the maze3 or spiral they use regular brass threaded barbs. ZI will say the gemini block will not grom with you. If you ever need more than it will deliver you can't simply put in a bigger pump to get more out of it. However in watercooling the computers to get the high end cooling can get expensive quick. Anyway get the real spiral rather than the gemini block.

Any other small, 4-bolt mounted wb alternatives? The spiral is thicker and wider than my maze2, and the maze3 is roughly the same I think. The problem is, I travel a lot, and I don't really want a heavy block on top of my CPU if my comp gets bumped around

I may have to invest in that machine shop I've always wanted...
