Using Resin...
 

I know Mashie used resin to make his awsome LED synthesizer... however, is it waterproof? Where can I purchase it, how to mold it? Ect....

I have a project, and I need to make it out of resin... bending plexi just isn't working.

I've used resin, it's really cool stuff.

I picked up marine resin, and some fiberglass cloth. I was still experimenting with in while I was in Canada, and I found that foam shapes worked best: you just cut the foam to what you want (if you have odd shapes). Lay the fiberglass (pin/tack/glue) then the resin right on top of it. Once dry, melt the foam with acetone, and voila!

(probably not environmentally friendly, and nasty fumes galore, but I'm in scale modelling (small parts), so I never noticed)

The marine resin I used had a blue tint to it. It is completely waterproof.

I got it at a local hardware store (Canadian Tire, for my fellow Canadians!). You should be able to find that easily at pretty much any hardware store, but I haven't been shopping for it, so I'm not sure. It's typically used to repair boats (fiberglass hulls).

Otherwise, I'd use extra strength body filler: it's just as strong, but easier to work with.

Yay for Canadian Tire!!! Well if you're anywhere near water any type of marine/sailing shope will have that kinda stuff; it's impossible to find a sailor who isn't always somehow fixing his/her rig, so lots of marine type shops will have DIY stuff!

www.usplastic.com has a kit for making your own clear plastic casts, etc...

This is the "resin" I think you're actually talking about. Not fiberglass resin that everyone else is talking about.
