Damn, I thought something like a heatercore configuration (Airplex) would peform better than just one tube rads (heattransformer), but no... Too bad I can't read that site or else it would be great...

Gnozo 07-31-2002 02:28 PM

Thx for the link gmat

Sanjuro - You can perhaps use babelfish from altavista to translate it.....I think that it might work :)

Re: Rad shoot-out

Heattransformer Dual 5,8
Airplex (active cooling) 7,0

Let's see, if the 1st one is a heatercore, measuring 28x14x6, that's 11 inches by 5.5 inches by 2.4 inches... that'd be a huge heater core. I haven't found an equivalent size one yet from heatercore4u, but I'm still not done compiling the data.

Airplex: 30x14x4
inches: 11 3/4 x 5 1/2 x 1 1/2
Equivalent: 2-743, Alfa Romeo model 164, any year

(Now I know it's from Europe!)

Qu'est ce qu'il dit?

Anomaly2181 07-31-2002 03:29 PM

ok this isn't a smart question, but how do I read the results, I don't know if the bigger the diff like the airplex is best or the other end with little diff is best.

gmat 07-31-2002 03:58 PM

Anomaly: less diff = better. This is waterblock temp minus ambient temp.

Note that all test were run with a Eheim 1048 and 3/8" tubing.

The airplex and heattransformer dual are close enough, but the reviewer prefers the heattransformer because of its good mounting solution.

bb2k: he says good info, the results are interesting - thank you for telling this.
Yes its HUGE... Thats its only downside.

Sanjuro: the results are very close. I think the heattransformer wins because of its overkill size.

One thing worthy noting, is the best 1xfan rad - BIX tied with heattransformer single.
The difference is price. The HT is less than half the price of the BIX !
I'm already ordering one :)

koslov 07-31-2002 04:10 PM

I am using a similiarly large HC: 9.5 x 6.5 x 2in (effective cooling dimensions, about 11in long including manifolds). Don't ask me where it's from, I bought it from someone who had already used it in a WC system. I have no fans on it now, and it keeps my OC'ed AXP 1800+ @ 1620Mhz pretty cool, at least cool enough to run at load for 4 hours while I play America's Army! Not bad for passive cooling, eh? I don't have a SMBus capable mobo, so I can't say what the temps are exactly.

Anomaly2181 07-31-2002 04:32 PM

Cool deal. As of 10 minutes ago I just ordered 1)Black Chemning 601 server case from coolerguys.com 2)Danner 350 Mag Drive from petsmart.com 3) and I decided to go with the BIX for space reason from dangerden.com

Anomaly2181 07-31-2002 04:43 PM

Ok nm I changed the radiator 2 a black ice revision 2 chrome from becooling

007 07-31-2002 04:44 PM

Howcome you have space problems in a servercase? :)

007 07-31-2002 04:45 PM

Would be funny to see flowtest of the winner, since it's a singlepass cooler...

007 07-31-2002 04:47 PM

What do they mean with 'active cooling' - fans, or?

Anomaly2181 08-01-2002 02:13 AM

007, the radiator is honking in size. The case is 8.1 inches wide, and the radiator is 6*8*2, so if i use the width as 6' and the height as 8' then I lose 5 drive bays...only lose 3 with the BIX.
