no its not orange it is a really bright red. Should have pulled it out of the garage for the picks. Next step is finish up puting it back together and get it inspected. Then replace the cheap mufflers on the true dual with Flowmaster 40 series and put on a 4" suspension lift to go with the 33x12.50 tires on it.

WebMasta33 08-01-2002 10:26 PM

Very nice man. I woulda gone for blue, but that red looks awsome on there :D Good job.

Sled_Dog 08-01-2002 10:34 PM

I wanted to go blue but my dad made me go red. The stock color was red. THe Firewall is red and the interior metal is red. That would have been a LOT more work. It looks good. I want to try and find a 69-72 Blazer and that one I will do a ground up resto on and paint it blue. If I find one in good enough condition I will.

Heavy_Equipment 08-02-2002 12:45 PM

69-72 is definately my favourite. I've always liked the pick-ups, and the blazer is completely topless with the cap off.

Sled_Dog 08-02-2002 07:34 PM

yeah with my style blazer I like it better with the cap off only on the back. On the 69-72 blazers though I like the full convertible thing. If I get one it will have the cap off all the time and put in a full out roll cage. mmm that would be nice. Just finished undercoating the entire underside of the Blazer. Got that black crap all over myself, my dad(he was under ti spraying), and the truck. Rubbed off the truck and my dad and I had to use rags and scrub it off with gasoline. Its almost complete. Wire the rear window(replaced crank one with electric), hood ornament, and put the belt for the air pump on!

ugh hate american gas-eating cars
Volvo 4ever :)

Sled_Dog 08-04-2002 06:25 PM

you may like your volvo but my blazer could roll right over your volvo so :P sure they chug gas faster than say a milwuakee resident does a can of beer, but damn they emit a sound that makes is music to the ears of a real man and put out real power and torque.

ksw 08-05-2002 06:04 AM

hmm got to make my dad's volvo Blazer safe... /me starts to molt large spikes of iron to the car chassi.

Heavy_Equipment 08-08-2002 12:11 AM

I had a 1980 Volvo 240 GL about 10 years ago...bought it for $200 off a friend with a few Volvos.
It was still running strong when I scrapped it... too bad the body rotted off it. I miss that car.

Look at it this way...
4 wheel disk brakes, fuel injection, side impact beams in the doors, and front and rear crumple zones...22 years ago. Domestics didn't come close.

The only thing the Corvette offered from that list in 1980 was the 4 wheel discs...never mind the Blazer :D

(Not comparing performance here...Volvo was a 4 cylinder family car, even though the Volvo turbos hauled ass, and the thing was THE world rally car to beat back in the day)

mfpmax 08-12-2002 04:26 AM

look ma, a REAL Blazer...

Sled_Dog 08-12-2002 08:14 PM

took it to get inspected. gonna be inspected tomorrow. I am really really unsure about it. I followed my dad with his truck while he was in the Blazer and I must say it smelled like a 2 stroke the whole way. Left a puff of smoke whenever he got on it. Thinking it is time to rebuild and work that extra Chevy 350 sitting in my garage. Or hmm I know where a 454 sits :)

ECUPirate 08-12-2002 08:47 PM

brlaaaaaaaguauughhhhhh... 454

Heavy_Equipment 08-12-2002 09:45 PM

I'm assuming you are Canadian Sled...am I right?

Gas is $0.70 CDN a litre here in the Toronto area...
thats $3.19 CDN for a US gallon.

I'd be putting a 2 barrel on that 350...never mind the big block. :D

Sled_Dog 08-12-2002 11:42 PM

nope Pennsylvania USA. Gas isn't cheap and that aspect will not be fun but hey its the price we pay to have a little fun :). Especially when you pull up to a rice a burner in a lifted truck where you exhaust pipe is right in line with their window :). Bye bye thump thump music :) I wanted to put a 6" lift on but that not only seems to require grinding CV Joints but I don't think I could talk my dad into it :(. I think a 4" lift will be doable though. Man it looked awesome when he and I took it to the garage. I followed in his truck and it just looks so great running up the road I almost can't stand it. Though I am thinking even if I go with 4" I will stuff a set of 35"s under the wheel wells :). "If you can't run with the big dogs, get your puppy ass back on the porch"

Heavy_Equipment 08-14-2002 03:32 AM

Accidently smack the oil pan/transmission/transfer case off a rock.

You can say geez dad, if only I'd had a couple inches more clearance...:D

Heavy_Equipment 08-14-2002 03:41 AM

One more thing...
You can do the 4" suspension lift, and a 2" body lift.

Keep the body lift to 2" max. and it still looks ok. Just be sure to use rubber in the wheel wells to hide the gap along the frame.

We have a trick for doing the body lift for under $20.

Hockey pucks. :D

Just drill through them, and use the stock body mounts with a longer bolt. They are about 1 1/2" thick.

Sled_Dog 08-14-2002 08:05 AM

prolly just go with a straight 4". body lift will be hard cause when I patched some rust I pretty much welded a few mounting bolts to the truck.

Pyrotechnic 08-14-2002 01:22 PM

454 !!!!!

Heavy_Equipment 08-14-2002 01:31 PM

4" body????

You do realize that a 4" body lift will look like...a 4" body lift right?

You'll have 4" gaps above the bumpers, and along the frame rails in the wheel wells. You'll be able to see the frame rails in plain sight from the side of the truck too.

I've learned this from first hand experience with a '79 Blazer I helped my buddy built.

This is more than just MY opinion:

Little kids will point and laugh, never mind you're friends, and the local 4x4 crowd. :D

Sled_Dog 08-16-2002 11:12 AM

umm no I said 4" lift. like period as in end of sentence. Then I said Body lift would be hard. I am talking all suspension no body. 4" body would look like crap not to mention it would be illegal in the state of pennsylvania. There is a truck down the road that is EXACTLY what I want in a truck. A 70s 3/4 ton long bed single cab, with roll bar, lights, 36x14.50 Mickey Thompson Baja Belted tires(EXACT tires I wanted for my Blazer), a beautiful silverish gray paint job, and I believe either 4 or 6" of suspension and 3" body. I just keep drooling. I need to go talk to the guy and see if I can get him to sell it to me. Too bad I have no money... Sell my Blazer and spend my college money I guess. Its just beautiful though. Should put a 6" body lift on, that way I could swap headers or heads from right in the wheel well!

Sled_Dog 08-16-2002 01:44 PM

I am tapped for money now, ordered a new steering stabalizer, paid my insurance for 6 months, and transferred the title from my dad to me. But my dad said how much he is gonna pay me for like the past 2 months, and it will be enough for my lift :)

Ok, I see it now. Sorry.

Once again proving the point that a 'period' means nothing but trouble. :D

Sled_Dog 08-16-2002 02:21 PM

don't we all know it.

Sled_Dog 08-22-2002 10:09 PM

Went in for inspection a couple hours ago(3rd time). 1st time we knew it wasn't gonna pass just wanted them to look it over and make sure it was good and safe for me. 2nd we fixed the things they asked us to and they then rejected it for emmisions cause it needs Catylitic converters. Now the third time we installed the cats(both are gutted) and a set of cherry bomb mufflers. Now the exhaust exits out the back next to my hitch rather then the side pipes as before. It has more torque with the new exhaust. I can start out in 2nd(1st on the handle) gear now rather then that terra low Creeper(granny, low) gear. Couldn't do that with the old exhaust it would just stall. Also changed the oil over 20w 50 to try and make it smoke a little less.
