Good P4 1.8@2.7 WC setup for under $100?
 

Hiya.

I've got a friend who's trying to scrounge up some money to get a new computer. He wants a GF4 Ti4200, P4 1.8 Northwood, and WC on his system.

He had a budget of only $950, so I configured a system for him and now I'm left with $100 to spend on a complete watercooling setup.

Do you guys have any suggestions? He's gonna be doing some heavy overclocking, because doing otherwise with a northwood would kinda be stupid.

Something that is dependable, requires little maintenance, and has a reservoir would be ideal. He just needs his CPU cooled. I've tried to configure stuff, but it seems like whatever I do I always go above $100. And yes, I have read Una's articles.

Let's see... you'll need a heatercore, from an auto parts store, that's 20-25$.

You need a block, say a Maze3, for $40+shipping.

Then you need a pump, so pick up a big Rio for 30$+shipping.

Get a T and some vynil tubing at your hardware store, and you should be right there.

Are you sure I can trust the Rio? I've heard horror stories about that one.

Should I buy a heatercore or one of those radiators at becooling or dtek? Which ones would perform better?

The Rios are fine, but the small one model 180 just won't cut it. You can always get a Via pump: see this site's main page. $22 + shipping. Alternatively, check out your local pet store.

You could order the following, from Dtek:
hi-flow spiral, heater core (unpainted, on special) and Via pump (also on special).
Total: $94.49+shipping

You'd need some vinyl tubing, some clamps, a "T" for the filler/airtrap tube, which you could all get at the hardware store.

Anyway $100.00 is a tight budged for premade stuff. There are some options but they are not great ones. Check the front page of procooling as it has a couple places like becooling advertizing $99 kits. Like I said they are not great though (but they don't really need to be with Intel chips). You would be better off picking up a good block and buying a heater core from the local autoparts place and modding in some barbs.

Edit: What Ben came up with sounds pretty good aswell.

P4 Maze 3 is 40 bucks. Heatercore is $25. Fan can be anywhere from 3-10 dollars.

As for a pump I would go with a danner magdrive. You can get a high gph for cheap. Around 30 dollars. I prefer them over the via and rio pumps. Make sure you seal the housing.

Tubing shouldn't cost much if you got with vynl. 3 dollars max.

A res will be about $4 if you go with a electrical junction box, or about .50 cents to a $1 for a T-junction to make it an inline system.
