need a source for good hose barbs

Home Depot only has the basics, like a 1/2" barb with a huge 1/2" pipe thread, so..

I'm looking for a good(& cheap) source for high quality hose barbs. Preferably a shorter thread length and small overall diameter. (like a 1/2" barb with 3/8" threads & a 1/2" "nut" or so)

I've been looking around, but if anyone knows a good source, it would save me some time. :)

Have a few solid designs on paper, all aimed at low flow restriction, max surface area, and good turbulence. The possibilities are starting to open up since I just:

I should start hanging out with the famlily more often:cool:

Locally your best bet will be plumbing supply warehouses. In bigger cities, they're common. Forget it in smaller towns (<100K-ish). Online, www.mcmaster.com has anything and everything you could want. Shipping is reasonable unless you only want a couple of fittings.

You'll be hard pressed to find nipples with extremely short thread lengths as they're simply not standard. Gotta do a little cutting on your own for those.

Acehardware has a lot for such a modest sized hardware store. Check them out if you have any locally.

www.usplastic.com has lots of parts, although plastic & not brass (I don't think).

Also do not forget Auto Parts stores. They usually carry a decent range of barbs. I found some 3/8"ID and 1/2"ID 1/4" NPT barbs at NAPA the other day. They were around $2.75 a pc. though.
