Silverprop Cyclone: Wild Design
 

Here's a new block that caught my eye: Silverprop's Cyclone 5.

Too bad it doesn't have the option of a poly top. And it is manufactured in Aussieland, so don't get your hopes up.

Oh btw.. what the hell is it going to do to your already tricked out systems? give you another 1C lower temp? I mean.. Honestly if you guys REALLY want to cool your systems.. stop grubbing and spending 60 here.. 50 here.. for the best blocks that come out.. Just get 1 reliable block and then use a peltier or a phase change system in a water chiller setup :) You'll be set for good then.. no more $50 every time a new block comes out :)

Actually that blocks been out for a few months now. I remember a debate on the flow of the block at [H] a long time ago.

The blocks LOOKS nice, and it looks built well (except for those two useless triangle sections), but I wouldn't buy it.

Most of the users here could at the very least, build a block that equals it's performance.

that block has been out for quite some time already. I'm using it now :D .

hmm.. maybe its a prototype... how come its not on SP's webby?

Hmmm. I wonder how those poly barbs would fair against cracking?

Haha, here people go again with this poly top mess! And did I hear or see someone asking about cracking and barbs... you guys and this eye-geekdom-candy... when will you ever learn that FUNCTION always takes precedent over a potential-flawed form? Can't wait to hear the next post about "my top cracked and leaked, everything is gone, WTF?"

Okay, sorry bout that, had to get it off my chest... anyhow, just by looking at that block design, it says to me "FLOW RESTRICTION" all over it! lol... All those slight curved 90° bends, and add the SMALL separated channels... that block isn't going to perform that well, for the money and time it took to make... Hey I've got a perfect idea! Blocks like that with the clear tops, after they crack on ya, you could use them for like say Flea mazes and train fleas to wander through till the end? Or fill them with a small bead and try and work it through, like a little pocket key chain?

I tend to agree, looks really mean nothing to me as far as a block is concerned. I look at my monitor when I am using my PC, not my waterblock. I don't think I would ever be comfortable with any type of a clear top, O-ring setup, especially with non-metallic barbs. Just too risky. Even if only 1 in 1,000 fail, I do not want to be the 1. CPU blocks almost always are directly above very, very expensive video cards. Leaky CPU block=ruined video card. I'll take a solid copper, soldered top.Check out this guy's nightmare to see what I mean.

btw about the performance of this block someone on ocau tested it against a maze 3. his external temperature probe didnt pick up a difference in temperatures, however he did get around an extra 30-50 mhz with the cyclone 5 over the maze 3 at a speed where it would get through 3dmark. something like the maze3 would get the 1900xp to 1910 mhz approx with the maze 3 and the cyclone 5 around 1940mhz, and he tested them many times and got a consistent 30-50mhz advantage to the cyclone 5. may be one of if not the best performing commerical block however i am pretty sure a good parallel channel diy waterblock could beat it pretty easy...

The design itself isn't that bad, but only if they made a few modifications to lessen the flow restriction that it would have. Like I said before, I'm sure someone here could deffinately build a better one. Could even do a bit of milling and improve it.

i dont think flow restriction would be too bad with the 3 parallel channels...

According to Dan at Dansdata, it'll perform so well, I'd dare to say that it'd work at par with a Maze3.

A couple months ago, I talked to Jeremy from Silverprop in OCAU forums. The poly isn't out and has never been out. Thsoe are just promo pics. I posted those messages back in June, and he said there is no ETA on the poly block. If it still isn't out by now, I wouldn't hold my breath
