OCing a ThunderK7 Board
Zoson and I were talking last night, and I posed the question, how would I even OC a Thunder K7 Board after I unlock the MP chips?
I'm feeling a bit noobish asking this, but even so, I never really thought about it. Even So, I don't have a damned clue how I would OC. any ideas ? is it possible ? lol |
It appears ffrom the manual that you cannot OC, being no FSB or multiplier adjustment. You can try Golden sockets, if your hearts set on it. Although I don't really know if they work with MPs.
On the Thunder K7X the MPX version, you can adjust the memory frequency, but i'm not sure if thats a real FSB adjustment, or a Async Memory clock adjuster. |
aye that would make sense :-\ i've not seen any reference to any even slight ability to manipulate the FSB.
and i have yet to see a golden socket anywhere, let alone whethet it'd work with an MP. Though from what i've read the MP and the XP are the same chip minus a few core instructions to allow SMP. so much for that, lol |
|
awesome, thanks joe, I think we're like the only people with this board... lol
|
after having read that, what approach should i take using a Palamino core as opposed to a tbird?
The chips arent made from the same material hence my immediate reluctance to start cutting up the chip bridges :-\ |
I guess you can still OC, just not through the modo :)
I think tomshardware included all the bridge information in one of their original athlon XP reviews/articles |
Solder in dipswitches? Use SoftFSB? Vmods? If you are handy with the iron and have balls of steel you should be ok :)
|
That "MHZ HDR" pad sure has me thinking jumper blocks or dipswitches.
Seeing as MP's are reportedly unlocked, a fsb adjustment would be a natural fit. What else could a 'MHz Header' be? Did you get any info yet Joe? |
hmmm... i think joe tried it already, but i think i'll start bombarding tyan with emails and phone calls lol
|
Dunno, I never did any soldering or anything like that on the board. I have a hard time doing something like that on a 500$ mobo :)
in the future I may, but I am not sure. There was someone claiming to have jumper positions on the clock speed blocks that would tweak to different buss speeds. But he would never share the info! he wanted to sell it!!! bastards, I dont even know what site it was anymore. |
Have you tried SoftFSB? There were some people boosting fsb on the Tigers that way on the 2cpu forums I think. Only limitation that comes to mind is whether your RAM will happily run at higher fsb without more voltage.
|
actually no I've never tried running SoftFSB on this peticular mobo, i'll give it a try lol.
and I'll pay that for us joe lol, as long as it isnt too outrageous. |
