Spir@l needs a good clean :/
My setup has some crap in it,only thing its in the waterblock only looks like some bits of fluff or somit the systems only 3 weeks old my question is can i take the top of without the need for a new o-ring?

Get the copper cleaner from Dtek and your set.
|
As long as it doesn't tear or break in half it should be fine.
|
I took mine off like 3 times. I cleaned it with lemon juice and vinegar the first time, but I got some corrosion when I put it back together. So I had to clean it again. The second time I used Tarnax. That stuff works great!! A soak for 10 minutes and it will look like brand new cooper. You can get it at the grocery, or hardware store. Then It sat for a bit, so right before installing I took it apart again and cleaned it one last time.

oh yeah almost forgot. Just leave the O-ring alone. I didn't take mine out. It probably won't come out without damaging it. I tried, but started to F it up. :p

Thx :)

hah if i broke my O ring i would just put a bead of silicon sealant around where the Oring sat and then put the top on.. so it seals with the top too :)
let it dry for 24-36 hours.. BAM! you are good :) |

you can keep rubber O rings happy with a liberal application of WD40, keeps them from drying out (not that there is much danger of that in this application) goes for all rubber parts

The copper cleaning stuff http://dtekcustoms.safeshopper.com/18/136.htm?53 and a new O-Ring or 3 sounds like the best solution. |

Where do you order spir@l o-ring replacements? Is it the same as the TC-4? I only see TC-4r2 o-rings on dtek's site.
<edit> Also, I have a tube of liquid gasket type stuff, so that might be an interesting fix. </edit> |
For those interested, if you pickup a Viton o-ring, it's made of a material that is oil resistant, so you could use petroleum jelly to seal it.

Ive been using it for years on the rubber parts of my ZX900 (Ninja) to keep the carburetor boots supple ect. "What surfaces or materials are OK to use WD-40 on? WD-40 can be used on just about everything. It is safe for metal, rubber, wood and plastic. WD-40 can be applied to painted metal surfaces without harming the paint. Polycarbonate and clear polystyrene plastic are among the few surfaces on which to avoid using a petroleum-based product like WD-40." http://www.wd40.com/Brands/wd40_faqs.html I guess they could be lying, but Ive had no problems with it in over 10 years and my XZ900's rubber parts are originals (1985) |

Here is mine, done with Flitz and a dremel buffing wheel! Then I soaked it in Tulene to remove all residue. I had no problem getting the o-ring out and putting it back. What was weird was the lexan top was not on very tight, actually it was barely screwed on!

Wow thats got a good deal of Bling Bling! :)
heheh looking good! |
