got 1 and 1/2 crack in my core!

i was lapping my celII.. (with my spacer)

and when the blue toplayer was lapped completely off...

I noticed a crack!
and another half crack!

i thought damn, i lapped em to death.. but WTF.. i'll buy a new one , the cC0 stepping is a better overclocker.. http://www.procooling.com/ubb/wink.gif

so i sanded on and put the Gorb back on.

it started up normally and lost 4C .. (pfew)

has anybody else ever seen cracks in their cores? or am i just lucky or is it a typical celeron thing?

and with a crack i mean : from side to side..

i'll take a normal picture and scan it.. hold on , the pic is coming

Lapping a P3 or C2 or Duron or Tbird is just useless. there is NO reason to lap the silicon. If you loose a few DegC its not worth the risk ( also the cores are prefectly flat from the MFG.. they have to be, the Silicon wafers are perfectly flat.

i lapped em not much
only to make the spacer even with the core..

btw.. is the core on top or on the bottem of the cpu..

i mean.. if you have that piece of silicon in your hand.. with the actual core-side facing upwards.. is the platic on top or on the bottom????

just curious

and are the backsites of the cores also perfectly even?

at first the silicon cilinder is cut into slices.
and then its polished to obtain ultra-flat wafers.. (only one side)
and then the steppers comes into play.. blablabla..
taken from www.asml.com.. makes steppers and scanners for AMD

did u know that ASML headquarters is 3 km next to my frontdoor http://www.procooling.com/ubb/smile.gif i've got an old stepping machine in the basement hehe

but if u lap ur cpu till halfway (or wathever).. the heat can be faster obtained by the coper on top..

but anyway.. my cooler sits even on the core.. and thats where the gain is from

If you can see a "crack", its only a question of time untill failure.

Each time that CPU temperature cycles, the crack will propagate.

Start saving for a new CPU.
BTW, post when it fails.

be cool
