Lets see, I got solid works, autocad 2000, smart cam, e z cnc, vector cam some where, corel draw 10, corel designer 9, and many other cad/cam software (Free ware and shareware) Got deskkam as well.......

Joe 08-30-2002 09:56 PM

I got MS Paint, Solitare, NotePad, and Hyper Term!

Heavy_Equipment 08-30-2002 10:23 PM

404: teh funnay not found. :p

#Rotor 08-30-2002 10:34 PM

hehehe NOTEPAD.... forgot about that one, not to mention excel...

this sample of deskpro is nag where/expire-ware too, so I'm running it from a small little partition that I have to restore it's os every 30 days, to keep the thing working... but ya, I'm not even in possession of a mill yet, so no way I'm spending 1000's+ on software...... yet anyway.... oh by the way, any of you guys know where I can get a nice cross slide milling table, preferably with a flat table and some T-slots in it...(not the vise built in) and measuring on the X and Y .

What i'm thinking of, is to convert the cross-slide into CNC, and fit it onto the drill-press, my design method, do not require any lateral movement while cutting, just extreme presision, and repeatability....

something like

FRAGN'STIEN 08-31-2002 02:17 AM

I couldn't find a cross slide, but I did find a good one with T-slots http://www.sears.com/sr/product/summ...ession.new=Yes This is the one I'm thinking of getting.

#Rotor 08-31-2002 11:16 AM

aaaaa awesome.... even better than what I was looking for.. and at Sears..... which was my other big problem... availability.

now I only need to overclock my drill-press a bit, I think 5" to the viticle shaft lenth should just about be enough for that baby...maybe add some wall thickness to it as well...

thanks for that link :)

FRAGN'STIEN 08-31-2002 12:46 PM

N/P #Rotor;) I'm going into town to look at it today. This will be my first experience with machining.

bigben2k 08-31-2002 01:13 PM

There are some 3d modeling wares available here .

I haven't tried any, except for Now3D, but I just don't have the time for it right now.

FRAGN'STIEN 08-31-2002 01:20 PM

Hey bigben thanks for the link:) I was looking for a good cheap/free 3d program.

morphling1 08-31-2002 05:15 PM

I'm using only two, Acad 2000 and Pro Engineer 2001,with this two I can draw pretty much everything, I know them very well, so I'm sticking with them, when it comes to jumping on other programs I'm the most conservative person on the world :D

gone_fishin 08-31-2002 05:38 PM

What about the good old pencil sketch and a scanner:D Not much backend time involved in learning unless your just starting out at 3 years old.
Seriously though I have ACAD 2000 and it is very time consuming to learn from scratch.

morphling1 08-31-2002 06:49 PM

Why, yes of course I scetch almost all of my Ideas on paper first, but I realy love drawing (mainly car designs- if someone wanna see some of them I can make few scans), and I spend a lot of time in college and university with technical drawing, so that's why I always start classic

MadDogMe 09-01-2002 04:10 AM

I got a 'Tech2000' HB pencil(with optional rubber!), some sheets of A4 paper & a scanner! :D

Fixittt 09-01-2002 04:23 PM

and all this time I thought U guys were computer geeks. Not artists. geesh, I need to find a new forum :)

#Rotor 09-02-2002 10:32 AM

don't worry FIX, the only good thing I have for an HB pencil is to unlock my chips with :D. last time I used one to make a technical drawing with , was with finals in Struct-110, and that was 15 years ago.... From there on I am an AutoCAD baby, and yes it took me a damn decade to get to where I am now with it(not that that is anything to brag with, actually...come to think of it :) ), no way am I switching to a new one now..

is why i'm on the lookout for the best cam proggy... it's new to me, and I would like to put effort into the best one out there, though I have to say... the one I have here, is nice

#Rotor 09-02-2002 10:43 AM

by the way I have a stepper motor here, got it brand spanking new at a electronix store far away.... :)

http://3rotor.dns2go.com/images/r&d/CNC/DCP05606.JPG

it has 6 wires coming out, which makes it a uni-polar motor, I think.

Has 200steps/revolution (1.8ยบ/step)
and is rated at 6v dc.

I have no idea what it's hold torque is, though I have to say, if I put 5v on it, there is no way i'm twisting that shaft... not with bare hands anyway....

do you think it be a good idea to go pick up a couple of them more, they are only $25.00 CDN where I get them....
