Why is my water turning to foam?

heres, my setup, maze3, bix, mag drive 3, distilled h20 and redline ww, 1/2 setup. it seems that about 1/3 or so of my water is foam, which makes my pump run much louder. does anyone know whats causing this? i suspected that the pump may be too strong (350 gph) for the setup, but i wasnt sure on that. any help is appreciated.

its probably being caused by the ww. I've had the same thing happen with Super Lube. I've heard of others having it happen with ww. Is your system closed or open loop? If you let it run for a while it should get all the air out. Once the air's out, you shouldn't have anymore foam.

The ww makes the water foam, but I suppose it should foam that much...

Are you running inline or with a res? The liquid will foam before the system is bled. I am doing my sytem right now, with WW and distilled water and it is foamy cause there is lots of air in there. If you just installed, wait for it to bleed. If this is something that has just started after a properly running system it seems you have a problem, maybe a small leak letting air in?

Most additives like Water Wetter are surffactants and as such will foam.

I have found that if you have a fill tube or air trap you will be able to elimimate the foaming and air out of the system. The time it takes varies depending on your individual design. In my case I experienced the same and it took better than 24 hours of continuous running before all the air/foam was eliminated from the circuit.

Hope this helps...
Cheers!

as far as my system goes, i dont really know whether id classify it as open or closed. instead of a resivoir, i used a 1/2" pvc T and put fittings on two ends, and then a short length of pvc out the top to act as an air trap and a fill point. thanks for the help everyone. im going to re-examine my system and see if i can find any places where air may be leaking in. Its also damn hot in my room (i live in an unairconditioned dorm) and im wondering if the 80°F ambient temp is affecting it also...

High ambients should not make the system foam. Is the system air tight? How long has it been running before you noticed the foaming?

Air in the lines. Mine did the same with a 1/2in PVC res. Makes sure all seals are completely tight and eventually all the air will bleed and the foam will subside.
