Need advices on waterblock ...

Hi all,

I'm pretty new to that and surprised to see so much info :)

After 3 weeks reading all the info I came with that:

http://www.tchacheurs.com/block1.jpg
http://www.tchacheurs.com/block2.jpg

copper of course.

It will not be smooth but rough.

The inlet is in the center of the block directly on the "pyramid" :) and the outlet on the right. The hole at the back of the outlet position is not a hole ;) (design error :( )

I will try to made it in 2 weeks but would like to have advices from experts people :)

How I came to that ??

cold water directly on the "cpu"
using a "pump/fan" design to flush the hot water away from the center and create a water rotation movement
using a "cone/pyramid" to increase the contact surface/point

am I right or wrong ?????

It looks strangely familiar...:D

I can see that you've opted for a center inlet, and a side outlet, like the Atlantis block.

In my design, I would have replaced your pyramid with radial fins, but since I was going to experiment with feeding the water in a spin, the fins are out (they'd also be hard to mill).

This pyramid of yours should be fairly easy to mill. Do you have a mill of your own? You could have the channels within the pyramid directed in a circular pattern, instead of "straight out".

I'm not sure about the angle of the fins on your design. Did you just make that up, or is it calculated, or based on testing?

I've got to get a prototype going... Wanna collaborate?

hi ben,

the design is only based on my old university course :) and is theoritical ..... I did it in 15 min ....... so only ideas .....

I saw one with a cone at the center but fins was not curved ...... if it's yours, yes it has inspired this one :)

You are right, the channels should be circular in order to start the circular movement as well as increase the surface contact.

The angle of the fins should also be adapted, I was inspired by a fan and a pump, but again, it's a starting point.

As I said, I'm brand new to this :) and I'm looking for friend who can help me mill it, I've no milling machine but can find someone.

I will mill it (try :)) as soon as I can. I'm in holiday for 1 week and after a redesign with more concrete data (should take 3-4 days to calculate.

I've a friend who has access to thermodynamic simulation software (Catia) and I will ask him to do simulation .......

and of course, yes, I'm ready to collaborate ....... ;) but remember I'm brand new to that :)

OK!

Would your friend be willing to mill me a block? Do you know what the shipping cost would be?

zeb 09-18-2002 09:12 AM

if he can do one, why not 2 ;)

I'm gonna ask him.

For the shipping, no idea, I live in Belgium, Brussels.
To ..... Texas ???? don't know the price.

I will check

That looks really cool zeb ! Would you be a nice guy and throw me the final blueprints/drawings ? That would be a challenge to programme that in iso, like them challenges ;)
What kind of socket/slot are you going to draw it after ??

:)

as soon as I finalised the design I will post it.

I have some ideas for gpu and for chipset but first the cpu :)

I hope to have access to the thermodynamic simulation which will help in creating adequate blocks ;)

Well, this look very similar to my design I just milled today, but I try and go by the rule of constant cross section when water moving away from center to keep the speed the same, but I'll have three layer design to try and optimize water outlet paths to be similar. But I'm still without digi cam so I can't post the actual block, maybe this weekend...
