How many ppl here play C-Strike anymore?
I ask this question because as soon as I get my Dual DSLs hooked up and running smoothly, I am planning on running a dedicated server on my Dual PIII 1.0Ghz Server w/ 1GB RAM.
Anyone interested in using it? BTW I am a huge fan of C-strike and hope that it never dies :) |
well
If my ping to your server will be 100ms or less then you can count me in :) I got my webserver up, if you want to I can run psychostats on it for you. //CJ Ps got any clan? Ds

cstrike 4eva foo!

Hehe. I stopped playing CS-Strike way over a year ago. I played since Beta 1, so I'm just burnt out on it. Out of all the people I started playing the game with about 3 are still playing. Ofcourse thats their life.

If you could that would be great! I already have most of the mods installed on the server and I am just waiting for a static IP so I can get it up and running. Since I am getting my service through two different providers, that increases the possibility that you can get good pings to me. Glad to see that we have active CS players here :) Maybe we could even start a clan? :D |
DUDE YOU LIVE IN SLO TOO????? DO YOU GO TO THE HS? SLOHS, HOME OF THE TIGERS????? THATs cOOOL THAT YOU LIKE THIS SITE TOO! ! !
P.S. I LOVE CS! |

No, I graduated from AHS and attended CalPoly and currently live in SLO. I am now the Digital High School Technican for MBHS :) Oh and I am taking classes at Cuesta. Nice to see a fellow SLO person in the forum. Welcome! :) BTW I will have to invite you to the next LAN party that I attend or hopefully host one of these days :D |
I gave up CS about a year ago, and said screw this ****. I am addicted to a nice game of bf1942.

Do you know chris, he is uber-leet like yourself, only in high-school like myself :) I am really interested in this lan game idea, my last lan party i had nobody brought their comp so we played the xbox all night (lan party without computers, it can happen to you!). So yeah, lan party sounds cool!

Update:
I am on the phone right now with my second ISP provider. Seems that my Static DSL unit is having some problems trying to work and so I am out a static IP, still. I do have my server up but I will not be hosting any servers or services yet until I can get the static IP working. Stick with me, I will have everything up and running soon hopefully. PlawsWorth: Just thought of something else that you could use your server for. Could you host a GameVoice server from there? www.gamevoice.com completely free and simple to setup/use. Let me know what you think. thanks |
Hi!
Well the thing is that the program requires that every one who want's to benefit has bought the microsoft gamevoice kit, to be able to use it. While Also there is an built-in voice funtion in CS as I guess you already know. //CJ |
PlawWorth: Yes I know about the built in option but so far I think it sucks :) Besides GameVoice IS free! You dont have to register it or pay for it to work.
GameVoice Server Download page You can get the server version of the software there and can handle at least 8 people on a good Internet connection. I have been hosting a GameVoice server for months without paying a penny to MS (like I should have to; they already want $1000 to get certified for their own products  ) And, no, you do NOT have to buy/register the client version in order to use it. The client version just disables some useless options when it is not registered. Trust me. If you have any questions, let me know. Thanks again. BTW I did finnally get my Static DSL up and running last night. Now I am just working out bugs with my router and repairing my main system. The CS server should be up shortly. :D |
My exp. of the built in option has worked just fine as long as the servers hasn't been pushed to the limit on there bandwith from the begining, though the problem I have found has been that far to many people don't understand how to config there headsets corretly so you can't hear them loudly enough or they have there mic's in there mouths :-) But my hate against microsoft may also make me a bit blinde some times. The other thing I forgot was that a voice server needs an full bandwith when for example eight guys are connected cause otherwise it won't be able to handle the transfers and the sound will get laggy. While a webserver doesn't req. the same amount realtime bandwith. Do correct me if i'm wrong. Nice that your broadband finally is fixed :-)
|
:D Yes I am very happy that I am now running at full speed on my Internet.
Also, yes, you do need a decent amount of bandwidth to host a VoIP server (Voice over IP). However, when I was running my server I was easily able to have 4 people on the VoIP and have a dedicated 3 person game server ALL running on a 384x128 DSL. The nice thing about GameVoice is you are able to adjust how much bandwith the server will use and how many people will be alowed on it. What I did was setup the VoIP server to Mixing Mode (combine all outgoing traffic into a single transmit) instead of Forwarding Mode (get a stream; send a stream) and set my bandwidth limitation at High Compression (4Kb streams). Other stream settings are LAN mode (32Kb), Low Compression (8Kb), and Very High Compression (1.4Kb). With using the Mixing Mode and Medium Compression (4Kb) options, my old pathetic DSL was able to handle at least 4 people with only about 1 second delays between sends and recieves. One last thing, it was free :) Like I said before, its about time Microsoft started doing something right. Other than that, I probably share your feelings on the whole MS situation. This was just simple, quick, and works. Also, having a separate line for Voice Chat from the Game server gets more bandwidth to each server and user. You do have 384K upstream, dont you? That should be more than enough for an 8 person chat server. |
BTW, if you want, I can throw up my Game Voice server for a while and we can discuss setting one up on your end. If you are intested............
Just let me know. |

According to my isp I have 1Mbit/0,2Mbit connection to my cable modem. To be more correct that means 1,024Mbit/0,256Mbit. In real kB/s I have reached as far as 150kB/s - 47kB/s which is a bit over the 128kB/s - 32kB/s that I should have. Though at certain times a day my upstream/upload, can be very unstable and if two people are watching my webcam (never happend) the stream get's even more unstable. I don't want people that are depending on a stable communication to experience lag or other problems during there gaming session. How fast is your full upstream / downstream in mbit's by the way? Also is it possible to use any headset with the software?
|
Completely possible to use headphones with this software; been doing it ever since I got it :)
As for the cable situation, I can understand your concern. It sounded like you had more control over how much bandwith you had available to you. I my current situation, I have (1) DSL @ 1.5Mbs x 128Kbs and (1) DSL @ 786Kbs x 384Kbs. Between the two and with the help the the Nexland Pro800 Turbo Router, I have a total of ~2.0Mbs x 512Kbs at my disposal. I am hopeful I can get at least a good 16 player C-Strike server going without much problems but I also wanted to host my GameVoice server along side. My server box can handle both but my DSLs might not be able to.... was hopeing to find another dedicated line to run the GameVoice server from so I could maximize the bandwith for the C-Strike server. Let me know if you change your mind. Thanks Joseph |
I don't think you can do that, my 2.5mbit/768kbit DSL maxes out around 10-12 players, and that's with nothing else clogging the line.
