[H] WB roundup

i havent read this yet, so if it sux ass dont shoot me. [H]ard|OCP's WB roundup.

Joe 10-02-2002 10:38 PM

sux :p

Most complex review evar!!!! its got like numbers and stuff!

hehehe flow rates? we dont need no stink'n flow rates! Accurate temp measurements? we dont need them either they just get in the way of the hype ;)

pHaestus 10-02-2002 10:45 PM

Yes Joe they just (inadvertently) proved that different blocks yield differernt flow rates when using the same pumps. No control (or even measurement!) of water inlet temps and no measurement of flow rates means that Steve wasted his time and ours. Lots of graphs and pictures that signify nothing (of real use).

gogo 10-02-2002 10:47 PM

I don't even use F on my thermostat at home. I'll be damned if i'm gonna convert a hundred temperatures.

At least he didn't use a shit pump:D

FRAGN'STIEN 10-02-2002 10:54 PM

What! No spir@l or TC-4. mmmm mmmm mm. For shame. Eh it wouldn't have mattered anyway.

koslov 10-02-2002 10:54 PM

A huge amount of baseless/uneducated statements:

Quote:

[W]e will not be including data like ”temperature in and out of the radiator” etc., because ultimately what really matters is the final temperatures achieved by each block at the CPU in a controlled environment.
Quote:

Both CPU’s were chosen because of the internal temperature sensors, which provide extremely accurate core temperature readings.
Quote:

The Eheim 1250 has a flow rate of 317gph giving it a high enough flow rate to effectively remove as much heat as these blocks can absorb and dissipate. Anything more than this in a single processor configuration, in my opinion, is overkill.
Yes, this is exactly why I am reading a review, so I can get some lamebrained opinion.

Quote:

The Black Ice Pro is one of the best radiators out there
Quote:

While not the most powerful TEC out there, the 122W is more than enough to bring CPU temperatures down to zero
Which explains why none of the TEC temps were anywhere near 0.

Quote:

All test results are recorded in Fahrenheit, I am including this link to an awesome Fahrenheit to Celsius Converting Tool for all of our non-USA readers.
So you must not live in the US if you use the correct, accepted unit of temperature?

Quote:

I think the most important aspect of this round up is that it proves that you do not need a 650 gallon per hour pump, 1” fittings and 40 feet of garden hose to adequately cool your system.
Umm, if I wanted adequate cooling, I wouldn't be watercooling, now, would I?

Quote:

If pressed I would have to say the Silverprop Cyclone 5 would be at the top of my list and deserves the [H]ardOCP Top Pick Award.
That's funny, earlier he claims to be primarily addressing American readers, while this block isn't even sold in the US.

dantheman 10-02-2002 11:08 PM

That pretty much sums up my fealings about this. What else did you expect, half the people who read that site have no clue what intake temps are, or flow rates or any of that, mainly because they are not interested in that. We are, and we will be offended by something of that nature.

Joe 10-02-2002 11:27 PM

Here is a copy paste of what I posted in the HF concerning it:

Quote:

I read the "review" looking for something that obviously wasn’t there. Detail and accuracy.

Steve, I would have thought that with so much time passing and with all the other SERIOUS sites out there doing real testing today. That you being a self proclaimed water cooling master, would have improved your setup some to be able to give a result that has some merit to your readers.

Instead the setup reeks of testing methodologies that were current back about 3 years ago. Trusting thermal readings that everyone has long since discounted as inaccurate for real testing, is just asking for a review that has a lot of pictures, a lot of text but no real info.

Also where are the specs on the PSU you used for the pelt? What were the cold plate dimensions?, you use a cold plate?, what clamping pressure you use on the pelt?, how many times was the testing repeated to remove any imperfections in mounting any one test?, You use a shim?, You have ANY idea what flow rate the system was running fully assembled?

I don’t know but being a geek who digs reading cooling stuff even off sites that I generally avoid, this one made me feel like I was ripped off...

Keep up the great work:rolleyes:

It makes me appreciate these forums even more :dome:

[edited, not to flame!]

Why on earth would he test the same WB with a TEC?

Quote:

Danger Den has a great line of blocks with the very stylish (interchangeable) clear Lexan tops.
Where's he been?

Kudos to Steve, for rounding up 19 blocks. Bricks for not getting anything usefull out of them.

UnaClocker 10-03-2002 09:07 AM

Wow Joe, you grew some balls. That's the kind of message I'd have sent Steve.. :) I think you covered everything pretty well. :) Did you get a reply out of him, your message editted, or banned from his forums? :) I'd guess the latter two, based on my past experiences. ;)

dantheman 10-03-2002 10:10 AM

Did that thread on the [h] get deleated? I can't find it anymore, and when I search on my name, it doesn't say I posted there are all.

Nah Una, they were much less inventive. they changed my sig to Pro-Crying and didnt even ban me (I didnt do any personal attacks, I was attacking the quality of the writing and the target audience :))

I must have been pretty damn dead on if it didnt even get a reply or anything form Steve, and he just delted the thread.

Oh well, I think 9/10 people agree that review was the biggest pile of bullshit ever posted.

lol, good one guys. i would read alot of crappy reviews and just start wining here. u all have the energy and balls to react. cool.

anyway, there aren't alot of places one can get an accurate , technical, almost scientific review. it takes a couple of years of cooling geekdom to find em. and thats a pitty because alot of n00bs fall for easy reading. easy conclusion reviews. i remember doing a search on big momma reviews, of course procooling pops up in google, but i read all those articles to damn many times. so i jump the the overclockers.com radiator roundup. with about 11 pages of graphs with pressure drop numbers, flow rates ..., ... from all those graphs u get to the conclusion, that i have learnt is almost the only conclusion a reviewer of WC gear can make, and that is that there is a very delicate balance between all the components being used, one rad might do wonders with a certain flow rate, and WB whereas other WB's need less flow, and i could go on and on. anyhow, i didn't find an easy conclusion as to what i wanted to know: is the big momma good? so one might be inclined to like a review site more for saying exactly what one want to hear. but one learns that the truth is better.

dantheman 10-03-2002 12:03 PM

There is a new one back up. :)

http://www.hardforums.com/showthread...hreadid=504793

/me is posting as godofcheese over there

gmat 10-03-2002 12:06 PM

Well, since it was [H], what else to expect from them.. Ah well.
Two things stick out of this article:
1 - Top contenders are so close that thermal ability is not what one must consider anymore. Mounting system, price, warranty, dealer support, looks are now all more important than pure performance. Am i suprised ? Hell no, everyone knew that for ages.
2 - No Innovatek (in a performance-oriented review, not including the current #1 contender is a big no-no), no TC-4 and no Spiral, no CuPlex.. but instead of those top-of-the-line blocks we have some "commercial" POS (Maxxpert, iceberg, koolance) ... unsurprisingly, OCH products...

Mhh i was about to try and defend the article.. too bad. Fortunately [H] has about zero credibility amongst the geek population (at least those older than 14).

g.l.amour 10-03-2002 12:44 PM

something else i thought of. this site doesn't hide the fact that watercooling, to pull off, almost has to be a hobby to start with. but noobs don't want to hear that. they want to have easy choices to make. and no maintenance fairytales. i mean if u read the chems and coolants of watercooling of this site, immediately makes u realise that there's alot more to watercooling than just a block and a rad.

gone_fishin 10-03-2002 12:49 PM

Wasn't there a guy around here and popping into all the forums planning on doing the same type of review? Hope this is a lesson:D

Joe 10-03-2002 12:58 PM

wasnt that webmedic?

bigben2k 10-03-2002 01:00 PM

Yep.

I wonder if he ever got around to it.

Yes:) Haven't conversed with him lately, but I remember discussing putting the goals of the review out front and clearly defined. The [H] stuff blatantly gives the impression that they can now tell from their testing which of the blocks does hold the #1 spot on top, bad review from the getgo. Their pick of the Silverprop may be correct, but so could picking that name from a hat.

I guess if you ban all the technical posters, then the intelligence level drops to the point that Steve looks smart? That would be a trick...

HAHAHA.
This whole thread is everything that I hate about HOCP down to a pinhead.

I got banned too, after I called them on their sell out style. kyle personally banned me without talking to me. I mean, that straight-up tells you I hit nerve and was relatively accurate on my conspiracy theory. He wrote some shit about how people like me don't piss him off (even though I obviously did or I wouldn't have been banned). Than I think he tried to cover up my thread by posting two new threads dealing with the topic....

Same thing happend to you Joe (although he didnt ban you because he knew you had followers in HF). 'Pro-crying' ..what the **** is that

This is a bit of a personal attack, but its not really an attack when you're point out the obvious....kyle is little bitch for doing childish shit like that. How mental are you when you can't take criticism from a PUBLIC forum? HOCP is going straight to shit...and whats worse, is that people in the forums and readers of the site, dont even know it.

I mean look at how your threads got deleted, or how you got banned. Other HFmembers are thinking all of the ProCooling guys are wrong!!!??? And one of the main reasons they are saying that, is because steve posted trying to defend himself.

Its disgusting.

-Rogue5-

Edit: just noticed the bleeps, sorry bout that.

dantheman 10-03-2002 02:13 PM

Dont' feal bad, I just got banned too. heh
