If I Just Had Some Money

Here is an PC that I feel I would like to own:

CPU: Dual AMD XP 2600+
Ram: 4Gb (4*1Gb Kingston KVR266X72RC25)
Motherboard: Tyan Tiger MPX S2466N
HDD: 1,6Tb (8*200Gb WDC / 2 Raid 0)
Gfx: Matrox Parhelia 128Mb DDR
Nic: 1Gbit/s CNet GNIC-2000L
Monitor: 3st Samsung 191T 19" TFT
Case: Chieftec JS-2000-8R Jumbo File Server 810W 3+1 redundant ATX
Internet: 10Mbit/s

Price? Well, the case, itself, cost around 1785$ in Sweden. The rest you can guess yourself. The system isn't my mega-top-dream-fastest-system. It's just a system that is to be cool and to have the power I req.

kinda curious what you'd ever need that much power for unless you are running some type of server that does high volume.. --Bikr

Listen to the new guy! LOL!:evilaugh:

Seriously, like most other luxuries, computing power is an end in itself!

I won't have enough computing power until my PC understands verbal commands, and can execute them.

Right now, a server farm in the basement is starting to look good! (Of course I would need a basement...!)

LoL@ the new guy... you aren't that far ahead of me in post counts there buddy.. So STFU --bikr

Actually, if i had a basement (and lots of cash), i would convert it into an arcade room full of 80's games. And with a full-size snooker. Oh and a bar.

PW your config looks like a server (Matrox gfx card..). For a server IDE even in RAID is less than ideal (slow random access times, low reliability). For the storage subsystem the ideal would be:
- LSI Logic RAID 50 controller in 64-bit (let's use that 64 bit PCI slot on the Tyan...)
- 15 x 73GB Cheetah X15.3

But if it's intended to be a personal computer - it would be an Adaptec 29320 with a single 73GB X15 for system and one 144GB 10K.6 for storage (or more, up to 14, if more storage is needed). And the GFX card would be either the GF4 Ti4600 or a NV30.
The monitor would be one of those neat plasma displays. 71" that rocks.
Of course for the same price one could buy a sports car or even a small appartment... Being geek and all i'll opt for the ultimate PC.

I won't have enough computing power until i'm put inside the games I play. Bring on the holo decks!. :)

jtroutma 10-15-2002 05:39 PM

Holo deck would be nice :)

Having a basement with my own power station and Cray Server Farm would be good enough for me though :D

bikr 10-15-2002 05:41 PM

i want to buy a pain station , those things look rad , noone can beat me in pong noone!!!!!

There is two programs for Windows verbal commanding, though one of them is only for swedish. After the review I have read they seemed kind of cool.

Aren't You the new guy? I have more post and has been a member since Jan., though I really don't care. Since I don't own my dream system, will never own one. Though I can always need more power. I bought 2*80gb wdc hdd and thought I would never fill them. Well that didn't take very long time...

Plaws I wasn't talking about you i was refering to this..

Well, let's see:

According to this thread

Utabintarbo describes himself as:
"42, MCSE, almost a BS. in Computer Science (surprise!), doing Tech Support and R & D (mostly in Linux) in Stamping/Machining Systems for a "large automotive manufacturer" as a contractor. "

What's your profile, bikr?
