dangerden reservoir sucks

I got one the other day and, well, it sucks. The cap has a large indention in it that holds air. My ehiem 1250 pumps air through the inlet and out the other end, the res never has a chance to trap it. Ugh, not much thought put into it. Before you gouge me, think about it. This is a retail product that im letting the peeps know about. :)

tyler 10-24-2002 12:56 AM

Yes I have heard many complaints about that res and don't see many people using them anymore.

redleader 10-24-2002 01:59 AM

Yeah its quite small. I like mine better, 2 in cylander just under a foot long.

MadDogMe 10-24-2002 03:49 AM

Small res's are useless as anything but 'fillup' points :( , I'd use a 1 or 2inch x 6+inch tube as an airtrap/fillpoint meself, don't see the point in large reservoirs anymore, apart from ease of priming the system at the start...

p0b0y 10-24-2002 09:31 AM

looks like i gotta make one, dammit, lol

bigben2k 10-24-2002 09:52 AM

I leak tested my PVC res yesterday. Since I didn't apply the Goop properly, it was just pissing!

The ID of my airtrap is 1 7/8 inch. I've got a top mounted fill hole and cap (not assembled yet).

Since the tube is quite large, I was wondering about using a carbon filter, to keep the "growies" out.

Sorry to hear that the DD res isn't working for you. I never liked the design myself.

p0b0y 10-24-2002 10:15 AM

dont be sorry, its their fault for taking my 25 bux! lol

mo 10-24-2002 11:03 AM

I had the same problem with my res. Didnt use the goop properly and the water just seeped under it to the otherside. I was using it to cover a crack that pupped out where I tapped in my fitting:( Anyways back to square one.

As for the DD res, Ive seen people fix problems with those by putting a sponge inside:) That should fix your problem.

p0b0y 10-24-2002 11:07 AM

i try to keep as much foreign material outta my loop as possible
:)

airspirit 10-24-2002 12:53 PM

Foreign material? I have some stuff looking like soaked TP floating in my res *shrugs*. I've emptied and reused that coolant so much I probably have some cheetos in there too. It hasn't hurt me yet, so what's the big frickin' deal? (In reality, I'm planning to get some new coolant tonight because I'm deathly afraid my ghetto system will go nuclear again because of the cheetos ... not that I blame it, cos I think they're nasty too).

i have a dd res it is fine now sucked at first
what i did was bought a diff cap so that the rubber oring actuly gont squesed all around before it leeked becase it was not a rount top it was a hex so the ruber o rignt just colapsed around the edge and was usless
then i filled the holo point in the new cap with silicone so that it wouldnt introduse air
then i got a sheet of gaskent cork and put that between the top of the res and the top of my case
that way when i fill i just fill till it over flows then cap it off and let it spill on the top of the case the cork stops it from geting the inside wet that is KEY http://24.218.60.52

bigben2k 10-24-2002 01:16 PM

Nice fuzzy pics! Ever heard of a MACRO lens?

Very nice fix on the res. Where did you get the snowflake?

clone 10-24-2002 05:04 PM

the flake was from ph

yes i have heard of one at the time i didnt know how to use it and the cam supported it http://www.sonystyle.com/home/item.j...=&itemid=53764

the prev model of that almost the same came minus i think lens exposure time or some crap

I heard cheetos had a better thermal capacity than water! At least that's what I heard...:D

p0b0y 10-24-2002 09:30 PM

I keep mine damn clean. Keep your hands out of it and use distilled water and you should run a tight ship. Water wetter seems to keep the little green bastards out of it too. :)

spinky 10-25-2002 05:05 PM

somebody actually pays USD$25 for that POS? :evilaugh:
that piece of plastic isn't worth USD$25 if you asked me.

i'd much rather make my own... or buy a plastic mini fish tank, and turn it into a res.. or something...

bigben2k 10-25-2002 05:32 PM

Well, to each his own. The Rubbermaid option is a little too ghetto for me.

Did you tap it? Mine was watertight before I added any Goop. I only trust the stuff to prevent leaks, not actually hold the barbs in.

true, but USD$25 for THAT is really too much, IMO.
USD$25 = RM95.. and with RM95 you can buy 13.5 Macdonald's Big Mac Value Meal.. thats food for 1 week! (provided you eat macdonalds day and night,2 meals a day)

I didn't use it with the barbs, I used it to glue the clear acrylic to the PVC part.

I use teflon tape with threaded barbs.

airspirit 10-26-2002 06:08 PM

I just use PVC glue. Once that shiz goes on, its never going to come off. Nothing beats a capped length of PVC for a res as far as capacity for cost with good performance goes. The drawback is that unless you can shell for the clear shiz, it'll not be purtee for your cathodes and LEDs.

airspirit 10-26-2002 06:09 PM

Did I mention the hellacious head rush the PVC glue fumes give you? I must have cooked half my brain cells by now! Woohoo!

mo 10-26-2002 07:06 PM

Im giving the black hard pvc tubes (kind you use in bathroom plumbing) a go tomorrow. I dont have the patience to work on another acrylic res as it is too time consuming. Maybe later..Why not use acrylic spray paint on the res (chrome maybe?:) )to make it look good and cut a hole in the cap on the top and cover it in acrylic? The whole think shouldnt cost over 20 dollars with the glue and everything. Hmm..could come out nice!!:) Im gonna try that tomorrow and see how it goes.
