hard drive switching

i was wondering if u could simply use a toggle switch. cut the yellow wire and wire the toggle switch in. the reason i am asking is that i am fixing to get another hard drive and want to learn linux, but all the hard drive switches i have seen no matter which drive u select both are still running. i think that there is no need for the extra ware and heat that this will cause.

If you have a decent motherboard. It should have a power down feature where if there is no activity to the drive, it will shut down by itself after a pre-determined time.

thanks for the reply but my mother board is rather old and will not do that. but is it possible and if so is the yellow wire the one i want to use?

just go into your bios and select which drive you wish to boot off. And keep both connected at all times

Yeah, keep it hooked up, the drive shouldn't really create any extra heat if it's not being used, at least not that I know of.
