Ibm 120gxp

Hey I know im not the only one that got hosed on these damned IBM 120 and 60 GXP drives. Does anyone know if there is a class action going on over these things? I have sent back 6 drives and replacements are starting to go out a week after i received them. Im sick of spending 10 bucks a piece to send in these things and getting back broken drives. Does anyone know if there is anthing that can be done or should i just (bend over) junk the drives and spend the $600 to replace them?

I have a 60gxp and have had no problems for a year and a half now... knock on wood...

I had a similar problem with samsung hard drives, 3 shipped back before I got a good one. Luck of the draw I guess... Plus, shipping is never nice to a hard drive.

If you value your data I'd just buy wd's and use the ibm's for backup

cybrsamurai, yeah there is a class-action lawsuit over the 75GXP series drives. the link for the law firm that is handling it is: http://www.sheller.com/ibmclassaction.htm be sure to check out the IBM Press page to see the nice re-reviews of some tech sites, even CNET stripped the "Editor's choice Award" after seeing whats been happening.

i dont know about 60GXP or 120GXP, but i hear they are almost as much trouble as the 75GXPs. seems IBM once has a trade-in deal where you could exchange the 75GXPs for a 60GXP series drive.....

I heard somewhere (maybe StorageReview.com) that the IBM GXP drives are reliable BUT not for 24/7 usage. If memory serves, the drives are rated for 8 hours per day usage and anything over that, they are not guarranted to run reliably. I currently have a IBM 60GB 120GXP running in my sever and when I heard about that, I started looking for other alternatives.

To delay the effect, I told my system to power down the drive when not in use for 5 hours so it stays within specs. It is rather annoying when I want to play an MP3, plays the first 20 seconds of the song, stops for 10 seconds and then continues on

I finally got a Seagate 80Gb to replace it. Now I will have the Seagate as the storage/working drive and the IBM as a backup for my workstations RAID set; so I can stay at RAID 0 and know that I have another copy elsewhere.
