Download HeaterCore Database NOW!

The Access 2000 .mdb file is located at a temporary FTP. The address is ftp://12.18.239.202/heatercore.mdb

This is really easy to use ... I wrote it to be so simple and engineering student can use it (it is pretty unf*ckable, considering how much time was spent on it), as long as you STAY OUT OF THE MENUS UP TOP EXCEPT TO OPEN AND CLOSE THE DBASE!!!

When you open it, you will get a window that prompts you for L/W/D measurements, the Input Hose size, and +/- figures for the L/W/Ds. This is all in inches. If you leave a blank at "0", it is considered a wildcard (input hose must have a value or you will get NOTHING). If all blanks are "0", you will get nothing, because that is stupid. If you enter measurements and there are no returns in the next dialog, then there are no heatercores that are near those measurements. Change your values or increase the scope in the +/- field. I didn't include pictures because I am to F*CKING LAZY, so please don't ask. Go to www.heatercore4u.com , andd a slash, and type in the model # +.htm to get the page for that particular model. There's your picture.

Once you have a list of heater cores, if you want to zoom in on one and get the vehicles that it fits on, click on the record selector on the left side of the window, and push the button up top. It'll pop up another dialog that lists the vehicles that sucker fits on so you can go down to NAPA and get yourself one.

If you have any suggestions, PM me and I'll tweak it a bit (do NOT ask me to add pictures because I am too F*CKING LAZY ... go to the web site yourself ... bwahahahaha!). I spent probably 8 hours on it, so any gifts of beer and stuff you guys want to send would be appreciated.

Oh, and if somebody wants to host this here on procooling (HEY PRO/MODS!!!), please do before my company notices their virtual pants are down.

wow man, what a cool idea. I'm sure plenty of people out there will be very interested in it

airspirit 11-09-2002 04:05 PM

I'm going to have to take this offline at around 4:30 PM Pacific Time. I'll try to have this back up again sometime tonight at a different location. Get it while the gettin's good.

airspirit 11-09-2002 06:17 PM

Okay, the FTP address above is now offline. The new location is http://users.adelphia.net/~jnsholcomb/HeaterCore.mdb

I'm going to leave it here over the weekend. Due to bandwidth restrictions, I can't keep it up too long (Adelphia is a B!tch when it comes to free hosting), so as I said before, get it before I have to pull it.

Again, if Procooling wants to host it, I'd be very appreciative. I'm going to also look elsewhere to see if somebody/anybody wants to either dload it or host it.

airspirit 11-11-2002 02:40 PM

For those that didn't see it yet (weekday crowd): here you be. It is still at the adelphia addy.

bigben2k 11-11-2002 02:55 PM

Got it, but I'll have to install MSAccess 2000 to see it! Maybe you could slap the data in a separate Excel file?

clone 11-11-2002 03:02 PM

airspirit 11-11-2002 03:39 PM

Just the raw data? Um ... let me see what I can do. It won't let you search (vehicle and core stats are in different tables), but I'll export. You really want to use this in Access, though, since the search function is what is beneficial. I'll be back in a sec.

airspirit 11-11-2002 03:46 PM

Okay, there are going to be two tables that will be available at the FTP site listed above in the first post titled dimensions.xls (measurements) and cores.xls (vehicles). You can crossreference using the core code (ex: 2-465). Ignore the a### numbers ... they are for reference for the macro I used ... they are of no importance to you guys. Again, they really won't be all that whiz bang without the search utilities I built. It would be worth installing Access.

bigben2k 11-11-2002 03:54 PM

Dang it! They blocked all FTP here at the office. I'll have to wait till I get home!

airspirit 11-11-2002 04:02 PM

Let me pump it HTTP for you. They will be at http://users.adelphia.net/~jnsholcomb/dimensions.xls or cores.xls. Give it a minute to upload and then go for sh!t.

bigben2k 11-11-2002 05:56 PM

Nice work, thanks buddy!

airspirit 11-11-2002 07:28 PM

What do you think of the data, Ben?

bigben2k 11-11-2002 07:50 PM

Well, I'm sorry to dissapoint you...

The "Dimensions" are good. Did you OCR that? My DB includes special notes, like "two intakes", or "mounting flange".

The "Cores" doesn't specify everything that the site does. There are different model cores, wether the car has A/C or not. The website has more info, like wether the core is a front unit, or a rear one, on a few models.

I can add my comments for the first set of data. I barely started the second, so I can't help you there. Maybe Unloaded is still in?

airspirit 11-11-2002 08:22 PM

With the year, make, and model, you can derive the rest at a parts counter with the core dimensions. I've done that job before. The rest of the data would be a biznatch to enter, and is unnecessary, unless you parts store doesn't have parts lookup software.

bigben2k 11-11-2002 08:45 PM

Good point.

As long as the user remembers to look at a picture of the core, then it's all good.

Actually, I had put this project on hold for a while, because I was thinking about using another source. Heatercore4u isn't kept up to date all that much.

hmale 11-11-2002 09:06 PM

Excellent Job!

Thank you to all the people that participated in this project. I have downloaded your data and found it extremely useful. I added another column to my file where I determined surface area and made that my primary sort.

Great work!

Cheers!

UnloadeD 11-12-2002 01:12 AM

nice job air!! btw, does anybody know what the other numbers on the heatercore4u pics refer to?

airspirit 11-12-2002 09:37 AM

I would guess they are the catalog part numbers, instead of the radiator code from that vendor. For instance 2-465 is too small to be a unique part number. 36549871 isn't. Possibly there are multiple part numbers for the same part if they go to different lines of vehicles. For some reason many distributors do this so they can charge more for the same part if it goes in an Escalade as opposed to a half ton Silverado. The parts business is pretty crooked, overall.

airspirit 11-12-2002 12:58 PM

Once again, I shut down the FTP site. The access file is available at the HTTP I listed and presumable at the other site clone listed. The XLS files are only available at the HTTP site I listed, as far as I know.

No word of hosting this stuff here at Pro/Cooling? *sob* And with Joe looking for content ....

airspirit 11-15-2002 10:57 AM

Any takers? Don't tell me that only a few people want this ... with all the people that ask about them i'd think more people would want it.

pHaestus 11-15-2002 11:56 AM

I can put the files on my ftp space no problem. Send em all to me via e-mail and I'll up them right now.

Crazymofo 11-16-2002 05:58 PM

Thanks for the XLS file its working well since I'm to f*cking lazy to install access at the moment. All I do is hunt for ones that will fit my box then type the "2-### heater core" into google and hit "im feeling lucky", it takes me right to the heatercore4you page.

I'll see what i can do about the beer!

UnloadeD 11-16-2002 09:28 PM

Hey just wanted to mention that the 2-### numbers are actually FEDCO part numbers. If there is an Advance Auto Parts in your area they carry the FEDCO cores. If they don't have them in stock they can usually get them within 2 days and usually the next day. Also for a kinda price gauge I got this one for $30 there today:
http://www.heatercore4u.com/2-639.htm
Another thing, most other auto parts stores can cross reference those FEDCO numbers for you.

peace.
