Quick Disconnects w/ Shutoff
 

Parts # 64661 and 64651 on www.usplastics.com are plastic quick-disconnects with auto shutoff (when you take em apart you get a couple of drips and that's it) that accept 3/8" ID hose. They are 3/8" ID throughout, and provide much less restriction per pair than a 90 in your system. These would be perfect for people that want an easy to maintain system, and the pair (male and female respectively) cost a total of $10.19. For those people using 3/8" ID systems these can turn your WC solution into a modular system that can be assembled and disassembled in a few minutes.

I just thought I'd share that with you all, since this is a hell of a deal on these things. Plus, since they were designed for use with corosive chemicals, they won't turn to mush when exposed to water wetter and they will not cause corrosion.

Do watch out for what makes it a shut-off fitting: very often, it's a spring valve, and it can be a big flow restrictor. It can even completely shut off the flow, unless there's enough pressure.

I can't find any specific data on the restriction of these disconnects other than the label "low restriction" that is put on them at every distributor. They are the APCD line from Colder. You know how to get the pressure loss data?

No, someone would have to e-mail the question to them. I didn't get anything from them in my last contact.

Try this inside connection # I got from the USPlastics staff: (800) 444-2474 ... they should be at that number at 8AM Central Time. I'm going to catch them first thing tomorrow morning with this question. As long as the restriction across the joint is less than .15 PSI @ 1.5GPM I'll be fine, methinks, and so would everybody else.

I'm calculating 1.3 PSI loss at 1.5 GPM ... that can't be right! I'll have to talk to them.

30513 and 30531 are 1/2" ID straight through connectors (no shutoff) that have near 0 impedance since they are 1/2" all the way through, and are rated leakproof at up to 100PSI. They are $8 per set, and have hose barbs on both sides. Not quite as neat, but near 0 resistance. Useful for quick rearrangement, but you'll need to get your components out of the way first.

I've been looking at these:

The coupling part is in the water cooling line for a peltier device in one of my labs. The coupling shutoff valve is pushed open by the insert, not the force of the water. It shouldn't interfere with flow much at all.

I can only hope the shutoff insert is as well-designed.
