AMD block mounting
 

I can't exactly remember which thread the topic came up in, but the discussion went as follows.

AMD have dropped the spec for the four mounting holes.

Yes they have, but manufacturers know what we want. They'll keep them on their top boards.

Below is the new ABIT nForce 2 Board, which if you check their site, seems to have been designed with overclocking at the front of everyones minds.

Could pose a problem for people planning to build blocks soon, like me.

Asus kept the holes.

Yeah, we'll probably see more and more MB's without the holes.
While they know what WE want, there are less of us that actually utilize those holes, and that they also know.

It would be easier and cheaper to design a PCB without those holes, as they will be able to utilize that extra space(though small), and put things closer together so they can fit some extra features ,or what have you, on the board.

I would say that the holes will be gone by the end of next year if not sooner.

It would be a wise decision for designers of products that utilize the holes, to come up with a mount that doesnt rely on the holes exclusively for mounting.

Just my 2 cents.

as long as some brand keeps the holes, we're fine. so i wouldn't worry too much.

as we can see now, the new 'clawhammers' seem to have 2 holes. on #rotor's site one can see a block where he made a mount using the 2 holes.

soo, if they don't give u the holes, just wait until the new breed of amd's are there; or go p4.

Can the funny mounting bracket thing be removed from the socket 478 mobo's to allow waterblock fixing.

Abit will have the 4 mounting holes on their released Abit nForce 2 motherboards. The picture is of a pre-release design.
