blower worth it?
i was thinking of putting a blower on my BMW Heatercore, i found one the fits perfectly on it.
it's 460 cfm @ max but the thing cost 34 USD and the shipping it $40 :mad: that's 77.xx total, but since i'm in Canada it's $120 and the UPS turds want also $30-$40. so the question is, should i buy it or just go with 6 92mm (3 on each side of the core) |
I'd use 2 120mm fans with a shroud, all the 92mm I know of have poor (comparitivly) CFM's (40-50) plus you'll get less noise with two 120's :) . I use 2x 92mm 47CFM panaflos at the moment, but I'll relagate them to 7V PSU as soon as my 120 arrive :) . you also get a 'harmonic resonance' discord with multiple fans together at max speed, run them slower (7V or fanbus) to avoid this...
PS, push/pull fan setups yeild very little (like 1DegC) over normal pull/suck setups, worth the noise?... |
for me to shroud on 2 120mm i'd have to V shape the shroud, cuz i do have 2 comair rotrons but they are LOUD @ max
and i would rather get a blower |
Have you considered 2x175mm fans?(AC or DC), if you don't want to mess with a shroud,(there's nothing wrong with making the sides 'funnel' shaped though), or even considered a new heatercore with a better fit?, I doubt the BMW one is copper?...
That seems a lot of £$% for a blower that's all :shrug: ... I wish PC/Cooling/OverClocking shops would start selling 175mm(172?) fans. alot of HC's are perfect sized for them, whereas 120's just dont quite fit without sharp angled / * \ sides... |
I'm looking at getting one of these fans:
https://www.jameco.com/cgi-bin/ncomm...s=503;533;798; Its 24v but spec sheet says it'll run on 12v-28v http://www.nmbtc.com/products/fans/dc6820pl.html |

i did what a bigger one but it was $50+ __ ||||| ||||| ||||| ||||| ||||| ^ thats what the HC looks like (kinda of :D) |
oh well, i caved
i bought the blower now which side of the core should i put it on? the side with the connectors or the side with out? |
Doesn't matter. Just make sure the fan is pulling with some shroud space inbetween the core and the fan.

i'm gonna put a gaskit between the blower and the core click for pic BTW my HC has a housing for it :cool: (BMW HC are the bomb) once i get the blower i'll try and get some pics up :cool: |
Oops, I should have caught that. Sorry. I was thinking 120mm/92mm fans still. Ignore me.

got a great deal on the blower too $33.15 USD linky scroll down to the AO Smith blowers |
That looks like it'll be one loud sumb!tch. I wouldn't be suprised if that was rated at 58-59 dB, but then you'll be hard pressed to find a blower that doesn't exceed 50 dB.

*~Update~*
w00t!!!!
i got the blower today, and damn this thing rocks, its a beast! this thing is industral i haven't hooked it up yet but i turned it with my hand and it moves lotsa air, even if its 2-6rpm felt like 20-40CFM if i remember corectly the pressure it like 60-80 or something the only thing that sux is that the flange is about an 1" too small, so i guess i have to shroud for it |
That's great!
Do you have any dimensions? What was the total, with shipping? If / how do you plan to reduce the speed/noise? |

<--------------> 20.5cm ^ | | | 24.5cm i'll try and get a pic of it tomorrow the blower itself was $34USD i think and shipping was $36USD it weights 11lbs i'm still working on the controller the motor specs: A.O. Smith 1/20HP, 1PH, 115V, 60Hz, 2.45A 1550 RPM, CWLE, TP, INS, CL "B", SPEED TWO |
|
yup, nicely fits my HC, just a inch or so off
still have to make a shroud :( oh and about the speed, since it two speed it should be fine i'm gonna test it tomorrow on low and high :cool: BTW the pic is kinda misleading, its not as long |
