question bout black ice 2 ?
Does it really require 100 + cfm fans
could i put JMC 68.9 cfm fans on it ?? i mean they say on the site .. MUST be 100cfm at least ... is this really true .. anyoen have one running with less then that ? also how does it perform compared to like the dtek core ? im only cooling much chip .. nuttin else might pick one of these up for my cube =) |
i think the only problem will be inferior performance. of course you CAN run with lower cfm fans, you just dont get out the performance that is actually there....
jsut stating the obvious i guess :D |
The drop is performance is disproportionate with fan power i.e. using a 69cfm fan instead of 100 probably gives less than half the airflow. This is because smaller fans deal less well with static backpressure and BI2s have quite a bit of it (as do most rads). It's probably better to get a bigger fan and run it slow as thicker fans deal with backpressure better and the motor will probably have more torque (esp. if you use PWM to slow it instead of volt mod or rheostat).

Good call, butcher.

A question about that 100cfm of back pressure rating?
Is that with the fans blowing on the radiator or sucking? I would think that you could use a push pull setup with fans in front and back at a lower cfm and decrease the back pressure problem. Am I wrong? |

I'm not sure if I was clear. I read that link. The link referred to stacking fans
radiator <- fan <- fan I was referring to a push pull setup with fans <-fan radiator <-fan |
yeah, thats what would be meant, fan|||fan
you might be best to mount the fans off centre so you don't have the dead spot and to spread the air out |
I have Black Ice 2 w/ 2 Delta 130CFM fans on it... Chip threw couple of those Deltas with my order as a complimentary gift...
So why are you so worried about the fans man? Noise? It's not an issue anymore... Have you heard about a device called DigitalDoc5? ( If you heard about it, listen to this... By adding a relay switch to one of its headers it can automatically controls the RPM of your fan... (I'm afraid I'm going sound like I'm pimpin this freakin thing, but it seems like nobody's aware of its existence) Even the ioport.com guys are using this mod + auto shutdown mod for their pelt systems... come'on wake up... They came up with it couple of days ago after me and some other guys criticized them for not having even a warning device in their expensive rigs... BTW currently I'm working on the auto shutdown mode (trying to figure out how they did that basically:0) any help is greatly appreacited... I think it's a must have mod for all aquacooled system users, especially for the ones with peltiers... |
