Motherboard help.

I am looking for a good mobo to buy and I stumbled upon this aopen one. http://www.aopen.com/products/mb/ak77-8xn.htm
My question is can I set the multiplier (after i unlock the cpu ofcourse) with this mobo? If not can u guys recommend me any other good mobos (with 8x agp)?

I really don't know about AOpen mobos.
But for AGP 8X mobos check the following thread in this forum: "NForce2 vs KT400".

Thanx man. Looking at asus boards right now.

mfpmax 11-26-2002 06:13 PM

I'd suggest an Asus, Abit, or Epox board before I consider AOpen.

Others to consider are Soyo and MSI.

Thanx for all the help guys. I am thinking of getting the ASUS A7V8X VIA KT400.

mfpmax 11-26-2002 07:48 PM

Thats my only Asus choice after some reading...was gonna see about the A7V333...

MadDogMe 11-27-2002 04:42 AM

Hmmm?, for performance I'd only ever recomend the 'Three A's', Abit, Asus And Epox! :D . all the rest are mediocre/gimic mobos' IMO, they may have an outstanding mobo every now and then (IWill KK266, Shuttle AK?) but then fall to the wayside :( . the 3A's always seem to deliver...

Soyo puts out a great board love the dragon ones :)

Hmm why do you want 8x agp ???

F18Viper@aol.co 12-07-2002 11:49 AM

I ordered the asus A7V8X VIA KT400, coming on monday hopefully.

I wanted agp 8x because i am not like you guys that buy new stuff every 6 months or so :) so if i buy something i HAVE to stick with it for quite a while (i am 15 years old with a strict budget).
Agp8x is prolly going to be implemented in all the new gpu's so now i have an upgradable comp.

I hope it works for you

KT400 boards have problems still ... 8XAGP doesn't work that well, and they don't clock all too good. I hope it works for you.

g.l.amour 12-07-2002 03:57 PM

go epox if you want the highest vcore adjustments for cpu, mem right out of the box.

MadDogMe 12-08-2002 04:36 AM

I would of waited for the second revision KT400 chips myself :( , how they stand up to the nF2's...

let us know how it goes for you eh Viper?...

F18Viper@aol.co 12-08-2002 10:09 AM

Sure, i will post up how it handles and everything soon. It supposed to be here early next week. If there are any probs i hope asus releases some fixes

F18Viper@aol.co 12-11-2002 09:21 PM

ok, I got the mobo, case, vid card (ati 9000 pro 128mb) and an xp2000+ today. Ordered it all from buyxtremegear.com. I hooked everything up and i am waiting for the ram that is coming tomorrow.

One question. When i put the heat sink on the cpu, I applied quite some pressure. Is that normal? I didn't hear any cracks or anything, just a little scared.

Oh well I will write up my expierience with it 2morrow when i get my ram.

airspirit 12-12-2002 03:54 PM

If you are using the stock piece of CRAP, it is normal to put a shitload of pressure on it, because those clips are STIFF. That HSF sucks, though, so get a new one or face high temps and next to no overclockability.

KT400 -> AGP issues have been resolved, with the new 4.40 driver (which replaces 4.43).

See it here
