Swiftech MCP300 Inline Pump, worth it???
 

This sounds like a good, SMALL pump, any feedback?

Its small...

Its fairly new so you're gonna be pressed hard to find much about it.

Ehiem also has a similar pump that has become known and is starting to be sold.

Other options are the Maxi-Jet series pump and Power Head pumps. The Via Aqua 1300s also.

When I first saw it, I thought it was just a rebranded Eheim (or perhaps that Swiftech had found the manufacturer for this particular line of pump that Eheim distributes). You might want to do some comparisons with the numbers that Swiftech has on this pump with the Eheim one. That might allow you to make a more informed choice.

It looks like a Sicce Idra to me.

For starters...

There's no mention of the drive mechanism which is why it runs warmer than the 1048. It's because it uses a metal shaft instead of a ceramic one.

He also pointed out it's comparable to the 1250 but anyone who's already compared the data knew that. He should've used the 1250 to begin with.

No before and after temps.

No measure of flow with both the rad and WB in place.

No flow data with 1/2" ID hose.

What I find curious about the review are these 2 statements
"Approximately 10-12 inches of head "
&
"MCP300™ = 59- 60 gph "

He must be figuring total head is the heigth from the pump to the highest point in the system. If you look at the p-curve, to get that flowrate there must be closer to 80" of head on that system. This is exactly why I am curious to see how much head a given item adds to a system. Your average user might look at that p-curve and figure his case is less than 30" tall so he might expect to get 250gph+ from the pump:(

There's also a dubious detail about that p-curve. At the bottom it states "(submersed condition - 5/8" ID output)" So in reality that p-curve is for a different pump because 5/8"ID output is impossible with the 1/2" fittings that are on the pump, and once you add tubing or adaptors 3/8" ID is the best you are gonna get:confused:

Now I'm not particularly dogging this reviewer or this company, I'm just using them as examples to point out some of the widespread misinformation thats out there. It's pretty rampant and the more I learn the more it's starting to bother me.

But you CAN get a 5/8" ID output on the Sicce; just not on the modified pump that Swiftech sells (if in fact it is the same pump). I would have thought that mfgrs would calibrate their test system to be able to remove the pressure drop due to the fittings and hose used; the fact that they report the fitting sizes suggests that they did not in this case.

BTW, this is a $15 pump I'm going to try with my first WCing build.

20w, 295gph and almost 7ft of max head.

Pics of mine are below. You can see how small it really is. Fits in the palm of your hand. I placed it next to a Swifty 462-U for comparison. I intend to use this for my first custom WCing rig. Got it new for $15 on Ebay.
