motorcycle radiators.....where? ?
Does anyone have any information on where to find motorcycle radiators? I'd like to check some out, but can't seem to find any on the web.
Links? ? Thanks |
Most, if not all motorcycles, lack radiators. Their engine is cooled by the air moving by it, if you look close at one they have a sorta heatsink on their sides, big metal fins, that help cool.

Some large bikes have radiators, I checked on them when I was building my last system. I found that Heater Cores were a much better route (for me). I went to a local bike place where i found that i could get almost any heatercore for less.

all crossmoto bikes being sold today seem to have gems of radiators.
|
I went to a local autojumble looking for just the same thing, most of the rads I saw were as big as car rads nevermind heatcores. Bought 2 small ones for £9 the pair, one was a rad and the other an oil cooler. I tried the rad in my last setup but I think it was designed to have air blowing through it at 60mph to have any cooling effect, didn't try the oil cooler, bought an Abyss Deep instead.
Cheers Chris. |
Well I still havn't had much luck finding cycle rads on the web.
Next step would be go to some bike shops I guess. Will post up, if I have any news in this area. |
Depends on which bike...who makes it...
I've seen single pass style radiators that people claimed came off of bikes, then i've seen Stacked Plate types that were said to come off of bikes. |
most all japanese made bikes(made after 1983) , from 50CC up to the 1300cc+ will be liquid cooled....
|
Well after 125cc anyway :) , try a motorcycle breaker, I think you'll find they are all Alu though, their positioning relys on 'brute force' rather than 'Cu goodness' :D ...

Cycle Rad
I used to have '88 (or so) Yamaha DT50 (50cc dual sport dirtbike) that was liquid cooled, but that was 5 years ago, so I don't remember the size of the rad or any other details, but there's a model number to help you track something down.
|
Never seen an LC DT50, only DT/RD125's, guess they never imported them to the UK?, only LC 50's I've seen have been Apprilia's and Cagiva's, big £$% Italian bikes...
|
The LC 50cc version of the DT were called DT50R in Sweden.
I don't know if it has the same ending R in your countries... |
I got a motorbike rad for my rig picture of it http://www.geocities.com/dr_babyeater
It was very easy for me to get it as i was walking down the street one day wondering where i'll get a rad from passed a motorbike scrap yard they had tons of them. All seemed to be aluminium haven't a clue what bikes they where from. Works well ifor me tho |
Well, I got down to the local cycle shop. MadDog is right, all are alum. (at least for yamaha and hondas) and I don't want any alum. in my system.
Another bright idea down in flames. |
