Black Ice Connectors
Has anyone modified the standard Black Ice fittings? I'm less than thrilled with the idea of using just tubing and clamps, especially since it isn't "barbed" in the traditional sense.
If someone's had experience tapping it for threads, or threading the exterior, please share. While I've have no real exposure to metalworking, I'm willing to give it a shot. :) |
What I did was cut off the the little bulge on the intake and output of the rad and used a compression fitting connected to a barb. The compression fitting is one that you normally use with hose but it seems to work ok. The compression fitting was 3/8 ID with a 1/2 inch female NPT. I tightened down the 3/8 inch compression on the intake and outake then plumber's goop'ed the connection. I then used a 1/2 inch barb with a male NPT to connect it.
Hope that made sense. It doesn't leak but I did notice a fairly significant reduction in flow rate from a 4x4 stacked plate that I had before. BTW I did the same thing with the stacked plate with compression fittings. |
