Made a shroud..
 

Well finally got to play with my plexi fabbing toys. This is my first piece. I used the free flowing capillary glue applied with a syringe. Prolly used about 6 drops total for the whole thing. I'm pretty happy with the results. It doesn't slip over the cooling surface like I'd planned, this is because of some globs of solder on the sides of the core, I didn't take them into account. I wound up mounting it with some metal tape for now. This is just practice so it's all good. Structurally its really strong, next set of round will be testing waterproofing. Here's a few pics.

BTW temps dropped 2-3C with the shroud 8)

I must say that you did a really good job with that plexy...I suppose that you cut it on that circular saw (I have blurry pic in my even blurrier mind it was you that posted a pic of the saw...:rolleyes: )...VERY clean job...

Can you post the trademark of the glue used?

Also I have a quart of Casting Resin and catalyst but haven't done much with it yet.

question: does the fan run quieter now that you have the shroud?

i'm going to be making one when i get my heatcore, i thought of using plexy, but then i decided on metal, (i was going to make one with the traditional slanted sides design), but this works and it looks sweet!!!:drool:

Fan is a bit quieter, kinda hard to tell tho. I have it hooked to the fan control from my Volcano 7+ and on low setting, so it doesn't make much noise to begin with. You could make a slanted plexi shroud fairly easy too. Cut it to size like ya would a piece of sheet metal and use heat to bend it, then seal the edges.

yeah, i've seen people make the entire outside of the case form one piece of plexy glass, have no idea how to do it so i'll stay away from it.

i like the flat top design on yours. this would work well for me, since i dont have alot of space in my enlight 7237 case, and im going to be fitting a rad, 120mm panaplo 86cfm fan, and pump inside, and porbably a res plus lights, and wires for a few switchs . i need all the space i can get and the flat top might allow me mount soming on top of it (my rad will be laying flat not standing)

Those/that case (it was black and 80's stylie!!) made out of one 'wrapped around' peice of plexi looked very good, the one I seen had two 'grab handles' like a rack mount, I loveee industrial looking stuff!, I want to get my paws on some of that Alu floor plating stuff (remember all the floors in H@lf Life?, the ones that go 'ba~dumphf, ba~dumphf, ba~dumphf when you run on them) the stuff with a

kind pattern on it, anti slip stuff, to make a really 'industrial' looking desktop/rackmount~ish case out of :D ...

You mean 'klang, klang, klang' like in Thief series ?
If so then they are stainless steel plates, those can be easily found in any general store (in auto parts section... meant for utility / truck floors i think), or hardware store. They are *very* heavy.
Don't forget the yellow & black slanted stripes for that 'indus' look :p

Diamond plate sounds right!, you can get Alu stuff though!, think stepladders ect, Stainless steel would be beyond my fabrication skills!!...

The Weld On is an excellent adhesive for Plexi. I did a reservoir with it about 9 months ago, still water tight.

What kind of blade did you use on your table saw? A fine tooth plywood blade works great, unless you want to spend $200 for the carbide tipped.

I got a 7" Dewalt Laminate & Plastic blade at Lowe's for around $10. It's 180T like the plywood blades but the teeth aren't offset on mine like plywood ones. I saw some $180 ones for plexi but that wasn't gonna happen, I only paid $99 for the 10" Delta tablesaw also at Lowe's. Next I'm gonna try some bending not sure if I'll go with a strip heater, heat gun or torch first. I'm kinda leaning towards heatgun, but not 100% yet, got a bit more researching to do on them.

keep in mind that plexi releases toxic chemicals when heated. I have seen where people will use gravity and their oven to heat the plastic and make curved shapes.
