Water Chiller worth it with Dual 2000+'s?
I just picked up a pair of 2000+ and IM thinking my chiller will do nothing more than straight water will in dualie system.
The chiller gets my 5 gallon res to about -10c, but I dont think this is going to do much good since I will be hitting a max of 150 fsb with no chance of changing the multi's. So should I just put the chiller aside for now and use straight water with a bigger pump? I know this is more of a judgement call on my part, but I have never gone the water route in a dual setup so I figured someone out there might know. Any advice helps, thanks. |
Basically it's a multiple block config, so i can answer (i've got 3 WBs in series currently).
Straight water will work indeed. Why a bigger pump ? If the one you had already could move the water around and produce good flow, it's enough. With a very restrictive loop, a more powerful pump will only produce more heat and very little more flow. Just make sure the rad is up to the task. Pick up a good heatercore, and a good 120mm or 172mm fan (Papst, Comair rotron, NMB Tech). Since you won't overclock it much, you can even reduce noise - undervolt the rad fan, and try to get rid of all case fans. It will run hotter but as long as it's stable it's ok. |
Right now I have a Danner 2 ( 250 gph ) which seems to be doing its job. However, I thought that I would need a bigger pump since I would be having two blocks, and a heatercore.
As for my heatercore, I still have my 65 mustang core sitting around from my first w/c setup and am planning on using that. ( Ill also be using a res that my dad made out of aluminum.. its a clone of a res Ive seen before out of Germany ) One question I do have still is how should I have the loop setup? Should I use a Y splitter so each block gets water straight from the heatercore, or should I just have the water from block 1 going into block 2 then out again? This is now my biggest dilemma. |
Yeah i was more thinking in the lines of a Eheim 1250 or equivalent. I have a Hydor L30 II (1250 look-a-like), 3 waterblocks, and a heatercore. The flow is excellent.
Beware of alu+copper mix... you'll have to put water wetter or any other additive to protect your blocks. Ah parallel vs series.. This is a FAQ. Try a search in the forums... in short, there's no definitive answer, concerning waterblocks. More flow is always better so series would win, but series add more restriction and reduce overall flow... Parallel reduce flow in each block but adds less restriction to the circuit. Go with what is easier for you -> go for shorter tubing lengths and less elbows / fittings. |
Well, Im going to try both this weekend. As for my heatercore, Im not sure if it is Cu or not, so I might have to check that out.
Ill post a few pics when Im done. My new blocks should be done tomorrow evening if I can get away from the family long enough to finishing milling them out. At any rate, thanks alot. |
