Lapping a P4
well ive now seen a few people mill their p4 for a flatter surface... but since i have no access to a mill, has anyone lapped thier p4? and if so get any better oc'in results? im thinkin of doin this to my 2.4 that runz fairly gud at 2.8(ram is holding me back) i dont think it will be any different then lapping my celeron 366z on my bp6 board. any input on lapping it, or just go for it?

I think that the general consensus (?) is that it's hard to do, because you DO want to keep the curvature in it (because it straightens up under clamping) but the nickel (?) plating needs to come off, exposing copper.
I'd buff the surface metal off, but most would tell you that it will affect the flatness. |
I had to lap mine because it had a small nick on the edge that raised a bit of the metal.
For the most part, my P4 looks pretty flat, so I probably won't do much more. Might do it down to copper though, like I did my old 366 celerys. |
