BIX vs. BI Prime

Currently have an old BI Prime, was wondering how much better a BIX would be. Would goto a heatercore but due to size constraints the BIX would be much easier to fit. So would the BIX show a notable difference over the old BI or is it not worth switching?

It's not likely to give you an ROI (Return On Investment).

What temps are you getting anyways?

I just switched over to a 2400+, currently getting around 35c idle & 42c load on it with a maze3. I have a duct pulling fresh air in through the rad, ambient is 21c. I just got done lapping the maze3 & increased the mount pressure so I figured that the temps must be due to the rad not cooling the water enough? It takes a minute or two after boot for the cpu to get to those idle temps.

You might consider a better fan.

I have a 120mm Sunon rated at 108cfm running with this, running it at around 8v. If I turn it up to 12v the load temps only come down around 2c :(

apocalyps is going to use this one:

Otherwise, you're hitting a barrier with that rad, and I don't believe that it'd be worth to switch to a BIX (maybe another degree or two?). If you sell your BI to get a BIX, you'll be out the same amount of money you'd fork out for a new heatercore.

If you just buy a heatercore and sell your BI, you might recoup most of the cost, and you can then drop your temp maybe up to 5 deg C, it depends on the size of the heatercore.

I am disappointed in you ;) ... recommending a fan with 55 dba noise output. Half the reason we go to water cooling is to get rid of the fan noise. :D

I agree with bigben2k that a heatcore is the way to go. If you absolutely do not have the room then I would suggest that your temps are not that bad. Unless ypu plan to OC the 2400+?

I have 2 BIX's in my system and they are performing well. The spec's say that the BIX 919w whereas the BI Prime probably does about half of that. I have the 2 BIX in 2 separate loops cooling a P4 2.66 @ 3.1 and a mildly OC'ed Radeon 9700pro.

The load temps are
Air 20C
Water 25c
CPU 32C
CPU 31C

Saying all this, I wish I had purchased heatercores instead. I am sure that my temps would by 3~5c lower.

Well, I did tell Apocalyps that he'll need a fan controller... (I just didn't do that here!) Otherwise, that fan has twice the output.

I have the 2400+ running at 2130 right now, waiting on my 8rda+ to come in to push it more. Actually just remeasured my case & I have almost exactly 6" height-wise available, I think I should be able to squeeze in the d-tek heater core, it's listed at 6" wide. Will the fact that both sides of the rad being up against walls affect the performance or will it be ok since all the air goes through the middle anyway?

Temps look fine, so I wouldn't bother unless your current setup is really loud or something.
