making an HSF, yes an HSF, need suggestions

ok, i know this is a WB forum, and i have made a WB, but im making an HSF for my kyro 2 GPU, the fan (like the blue orb) died and it keeps overheating and freezing games after a while,

here is the material i have to work with, and the last pick is a possible design i am considering doing with a drill press, found that pick on a forum, they are mounted on an ati 9700, OR should i just cut into it like the blue thermaltake block in the picks, the only thing is that it will be with a grinder and hand saw lol.

i'll be using one of the thinner pieces, how thick should my base be

so which desing is better? the wholes, or the channels?
