theres a clearflex 60 distributor near my house, and i was looking at the different types of it.

whats the point of having thick-walled tubing (sorry if this is newb-like)? also, would there be any benefit to getting the vacuum-tubing (5/16" wall)? because its still cheaper than tygon....

Too thin, and it will either collapse or kink.

We've discussed this extensively, but the rundown is this:

The thin walled tubing will kink very easily, but will bend over a small radius (i.e. tight turns). If you have a large pump, the tubing may collapse at the pump inlet.

The thick walled stuff is much harder to bend (i.e. large turns), but it won't kink nor collapse. It also has the disadvantage of putting some strain on a block (pulling towards one side), so you have to watch out for that.

5/16 is WAY too thick... "thin" is 1/16, "thick" is 1/8.
