What 120mm fan do you use on ur radiators?
 

I am looking for a fan with a static pressure rating of .12 or higher and a rated capacity of 100CFM or more, while being the quietest possible. What do you use? I want a very quiet system. I have a rheo so i can turn the juice down on the fan if possible.

BTW where can you buy a fan that even lists the static pressure rating?

I know the ADDA fans at Phamcomputer have static pressure specs.

I just say go for Panaflo. I have a 120mm L1A spec'd at 69CFM @ 30dB. Doesn't do too well against pressure though. The M1A is 89CFM @ 36dB. That seems like a winner for you. Comes within 11CFM of 100, and is decently quiet. The H1A is over 40dB I think and has a pretty high CFM rating. The RPM of the fan along with it's 38mm width really help it perform exceptionally well against pressure.

Loudness is a function of flow. There are no quiet fans, just low flow fans.

My setup uses a Panaflo M1A attached to a rheostat. Or it will; I was half way through soldering it together when I saw you post :)

Its pretty quiet at full speed and at minimum its very quiet (25 OHM rheostat, the Shack was out of 100 OHMs).

If you really don't mind noise or already have a noisy system get an H1A or even a U1A and use a larger rheostat. Then pick the noise/flow that suits you best.

Well i have a Rheo Bus. As far as throttling it down, I know that is an option. However I am sure that static pressure rating and CFM are a bit different and some fans might have a higher static pressure rating than another fan while blowing the same CFM.

Thoughts?

My panaflow doesnt say what type of 1A it is. It just has "-1A". Any ideas? Red Leader, what does yours say on the sticker?

i run sunon 120.. rated to 84-85 cfm @12v

3.2W.. :) thay are not lowd, but thay to vibrate quite a bit.. so the case vibrates..

Vibration can be reduced by rubber washers...

I use a sunon 108cfm fan on my rad, I have it sucking through it! it works great, even @ 7 volts!

Matt, how loud is that fan at the low voltage?

I really doubt ur gonna get a 100cfm 120mm fan and have it be quiet.. i was running a 4300 YS TECH fan on my heatsink that was 43db and i couldn't stand it.. thats why I went to water cooling... all my fans now are 30db or less.. I Like to sleep with my puter on thats why :)

it's probably around 28db, barely audible. I can't hear it over my harddrive which is prety quiet. it's prety thick so it's probably pulling realisticly 45cfm through the rad with hardly any noise. It's a great fan, I got it from where I work(microcenter) it retails for like $20 there.

Funny story... I bought what I thought was a L1A from www.plycon.com . I hooked it up to the rhe-bus, throttled it down to 9.5 and was unable to hear it over my thermaltake Mini Copper Orb.

After checking out their site i was set on getting a H1A to cool the radiator. I was looking at it's static pressure rating: 6.80mm of h2o = 6.80/2.54 = .268 inches of h2o. Thinking to myself... This is perfect!

Funny part:

Finally figured out where to look for the code on the fan to determine the type of fan I got. Come to find out, I have a H1A. Now I need to get plycon to send me another one. The L1A. Thats for case vent...

After hearing of the sunon success, I'd like to know of a direct comparison of fans w/ rads. Be a nice addition to the thing Joe's got going.

Basically any fan at a given RPM will produce the same flow. There may be somedifferences, but nothing significant.

In addition most fans will produce the exact same noise at a given RPM/Flowrate. Some are slightly louder (YS Tech) while others are slightly quieter (Papst, Panaflo), but basically a fan is a fan. I just get the fastest one and drop a resistor/rheostat onto it until it performs how I need.

Question: do thicker fans have better static pressure ? One would want to check a 25mm against 40 or 50mm ones, preferably from the same brand and same diameter (all Sunon's 120mm for example).

Now I need some old jacked 120 mm fans. 38mm depth preferred. I will pay via paypal anyone for the shipping and a couple bones for the trouble.

I just received (20) 120mm X 38mm Delta fans rated at 130CFM, I got them for $1ea. plus shipping if you order 20 or more (<$28 total for me). I don't have the model # in front of me but I got them here:

the Sunon KD1212PTB1-6A(25mm thick) is rated @ 90cfm @3100rpm whereas the Sunon KD1212PMB1-6A(38mm thick) is rated @ 108cfm @3100rpm. I have the later and it works very well with my radiator @ 7v or 12v.

Hehe WaterPog, for that price, you'll get 20 of those hand fan thingies (whatever you call 'em) with "Delta 130" printed on them... lol

I have them sitting in my garage now, except for 5, 1 in my case a 4 that I sold to guys at work for $10ea...I have allready covered the cost twice.... :D

They shipped on the 2nd day after the order, UPS ground and showed up on wensday this week.

lol... too bad I dont know anyone that wants 120mm fans... hehe...
