Pyrmid style pins that are 1/16" at base and 1/32" at top. I have a 1/4" peice of acrylic for a spacer for water flow and a 1/4" peice for the top peice. the depth of the pins are .030". Base is 1/8" aluminum (lack of copper). All I can tell you is it only took about 15mins. :)

damn thats cool, what machine did you use? is it just a cnc mill?

Nah, CNC mill wouldn't work, or at least it couldn't do it in 15 mins. I was running a little over 16,000rpm. Not going to specify what equipment I used just yet. Waiting to see if anyone can figure it out. :D

A small diameter cutting wheel (or similar)? Looking good with the waterblock, but I would have liked to see the base made of copper instead. But I guess you're finetuning the blocks design first? :) Also a nozzle would be good :)

I would have rather done it in Copper but I didn't have any at work exept 1/16". I have some 1/8" around here somewhere. I will run one out when I can find it. Nozzel will come once I get a working copper prototype of this one done. It was done on a $14,000US peice of equipment which I use everyday at work. Similar to a CNC mill but not quite.

Nice job jaydee. Youre turning out more blocks than Ford is putting out pick-up trucks!!

N8 01-22-2003 12:33 AM

jaydee, try Alcobra metals on the north side (4510 N. Freya), they have lots of copper and aluminum. They have scrap pieces in all shapes and sizes that you can pick out. Not the best prices in the world, but pretty good.

We actually use them for thin aluminum sheet metal at work sometimes. Unfortunatly my work hours are pretty much the same as everyone else's in town so I am stuck with ordering and haveing it shipped to work. . I have some 1/8" flat stock C110 in my garage somewhere. I am going to try and dig it out this morning and run a few copper bases today if I have time. If I can find it anyway. :D

N8 01-22-2003 10:35 AM

They used to be open for several hours on Saturdays. I don't know if they do that anymore though.

Cova 01-22-2003 11:18 AM

I could do that to a piece of wood in about the same amount of time using the router, a couple clamps, and a couple pieces of wood for straight-edges to guide the router along. But somehow I get the feeling that the router would really not appreciate having a piece of aluminum shoved into it's bit.

Then again, if you can get shaped bits for CNC's like you can for routers, that block is nothing but a grid drawn with a pointy bit not set very deep.

Either way, looks damn nice. What we really need now is an online non-profit store where we can buy home-built blocks. A page somewhere on ProCooling where all you block-makers can list your items along with a price, and readers can put in an order and have one made/shipped to him, ProCooling would just be used to connect the buyers/sellers. If you could run ASP or ASP.NET instead of php I'd code it for you myself.

I didn't know that. I might have to check one of these weekends when I have time.

I found my 1/8" C110 copper stock this morning and just ran a base out with it. Still only took 15mins. :D The bit is toast though. I am running another one out in AL with a narrower angle on it and going to shoot for .050 deep. I have to order some new bits here anyway. One's I got are well used.

The machine is a Xenetech XOT 1625 rotory engraver. http://www.xenetech.com/html/1625.htm

I will probably not be able to use it in the future for this and will end up going back to the drilled holes in REV. 3.0. But while I have the chance I thought I would try it out. Then I can test against the drilled holes later.

Had to post that link so I would remember it later. :D

Got 3 bases done with holes drilled and taped and got 3 sets of acrylic peices to go with it. So now I just need to get some 5/8" long screws, tap the barb holes, drill the 4 mounting holes, and seal them up and pressure test them for a while.

jaydee 01-22-2003 07:57 PM

Copper base. :)

Couldn't make it to the hardware store for screws. Just to nasty outside. Snow/rain/sleet/hail all at the same time!

Lookin good jaydee!

I don't really know if they are or not. :D Looks cool though. What type of endmill did you use for that?

jaydee 01-23-2003 06:32 PM

Anyone following my thread similar to this at overclockers.com that has any comments or questions will have to e-mail or post it here. Seems they decided to not allow msn addy's. Well MSN is my ISP so screw them. :p

Ahhh, my mill will do that to, I just never played with it like that yet.

jaydee 01-25-2003 10:35 AM

Finally got the screws needed to put this thing together. My scedual is not looking good though. Going to have a SolidWorks2003 tutorial today from a freind of mine. Also have my daughter all weekend and she is only 6 so that keeps me from running machines. I might be able to drill out the mounting holes and seal the block up tomorrow though. I ordered a new 1700+ TBred yesterday and plan on having this block done and ready for it by the time it gets here wendsday or thursday, but if i can manage to get the mounting holes drilled tomorrow I will be able to mount it after the sealant dries. Clear RTV for the copper base to the middle acrylic peice and IPS Weld On #4 for the acrylic to acrylic. It isn't going to take much. I bolted it together without sealant and it will hold 15PSI with minimul leakage! :) There is ALOT of surface area for the seal. Looking forward to seeing what it will do. :)

Puzzdre 01-25-2003 05:32 PM

Me too!!!
Too bad I cannot cut anything with my HeNe 1mW tube...:(

jaydee 01-26-2003 05:20 PM

Got the block sealed up and leak testing it now. Going to install it tomorrow on my Duron 1gig@1.2gig tomorrow for a test run before I drop the New TBred in there when it arrives.
