IOSS Cooling After

Is anyone using this in their water or air cooling rig?

heres a url for specs : http://www.ioss.com.tw/web/English/RD7%20CA.htm

And if u r where did u buy it? its a hard thing to find out about...

I don't use it, but I'd rather build one myself. It's just a small extension to the pump relay mod.

Of course one has to assume that they would use the absolute worst case scenario, to demonstrate their point. (ref graph)

The other variable is: is it really good to cool down a CPU that quick, every time? Aren't semiconductors adversely affected by rapid temp changes? I'd keep the fan running about 60 seconds, looking at their graph: it would keep the CPU at the temp it was at shutdown, and let it cool itself gently from there.

A little known fact: Many OC'ers ignore wide temp variations in their gear. Good OC'ers don't.

That looks like snake oil to me

Yep.

This product is a joke. I have measured the temps after the computer has been shut down with an external probe and it does not stay that warm that long! Even if it did what does it matter? It is still well below the maximum die temp of 90C and not much warmer than actually RUNNING the computer. This is one of those "hype it up because the users doesn't know any better" products. It will probably sell like mad.

I saw this product a few weeks ago, made me lauph my ass off. When I used to have a thermistor on the side of my CPU die, it would cool down so fast after I turned off my system. There is no point for this product......

Okay then... no one from Procooling is going to buy this product

I dunno if anyone at Procooling ever turns their PCs off :)

I got 4 computers at home running 24/7. Only time they get shut off is for an upgrade/tweaking or power outage. :D

There a off switch on a compture, where is that located? :D

I use PC Mods Power Down Protector (same thing, different name)
and must say its a great product. I've measured a 7 degree drop in a ten minute span with the device.
I think its good to have, just incase.

a) I only run my computer during the day, as it is in my bedroom, and it is somewhat loud.

b) This product would be a complete waste, i have noticed that the fan on my CPU heatsink takes several seconds to stop spinning, more than enough time for the CPU to cool down.

koslov 04-16-2003 05:04 PM

Yup, this and other products are definitely a scam designed to exploit people who know little about thermo. When you turn your comp off, your CPU will never get hotter than the temp it was at when on. Where is the heat coming from to make it hotter? There is no current going through the CPU...

Besides, the operating temp and storage temp specs of a CPU are very different... you can have a CPU at 100°C if it's not running. So even if the CPU was somehow magically getting hotter after being turned off, it could get up to 100°C without damage.

IOSS makes some fine products
aftercool dosent happen to be one of them
as mentioned above its sort of pointless
with the possible exception of a dual or stacked peltier setup
(running a pump and fan for an extra minute or two)

spend your money on a IOSS Bios savior or PC Geiger instead ;)
