additional heat of submerged setup?
 

just curious what the temp increase generally is in a submerged setup, say running an eheim 1250. submerged really seems the right way to go for my setup, but the heat concerns me.

I can't give you the temp differential between submerged and inline but remember this: Submerged puts EVERY ounce of heat into the water, inline only puts a fraction (exactly how much is unknown) of the heat into the water...

yeah, i'm just trying to decide if it's a negligible amount, i.e. 1-3 degrees, or 10 degrees, and if it would hurt the setup considerably.

the 1250 puts out a lot of heat, relative to other pumps (it also vibrates a lot more than others)
I bet that it would raise your water temps by 2~3 degrees and maybe your cpu temps by ...... (less than one degree)
but I have been noticing that most people seem to be more concerned about temps than anything. So if you want bragging rights for your water temps...think about using a different pump.

hrm... so maybe a different pump, then? i'm not dead-set on the eheim, just so far that seemed the right thing to do. i'm planning on pelting the setup tho, so i'm not sure that a 2-3 deg. temp rise would really affect it all that much. big peltiers, too.

Isn't the 1250 rated at 28 watts? If so, then you just need to know your flowrate to know the impact. Temperature rise is proportional to flowrate and heat load. 28 watts equals a rise of 1°C in a mere 9 gph. At any reasonable flow, you would not notice the difference vs normal room temperature fluctuations.
