chipset block on 8k3a+
 

Its come down to my chipset fan driving me nuts.
So im interesting in adding it to my water setup. Only as many of you know the Cap near the NB on the 8k3a+ is in a bad spot , so im asking all of you if you've found a block that is successful of clearing it with minimal modifications , or none , the latter perfered.

Ive been pondering making one , this type of block would be a good start.

Also if any of you have ideas on removing a heatsink put on with artic aluminia thermal epoxy , dont know if its possible. I figured a sharp razor blade and a careful hand would work. But if you guys know of a better solution please share.

If i cannot remove the heatsink , i will just replace that fan. So if any of you know of a good 40mm i think fan that isnt loud but pushes decent air , with a link that would be a very big help for a temporary or hopefully not permanent solution.

I have an 8k3a+ and my northbridge is cooled by the dangerden northbridge block w/ plexi top. It's a good block, but if you have your cpu cooled you don't want your northbridge on the same loop, the cpu heats the water hotter than the northbridge normally gets with just it's own heatsink. The 8k3a does not really need one on the northbridge anyway. The board doesn't ship with one. right now my northbridge is watercooled and running at 95F. Not so good. Don't waste your time, northbridge watercooling is dumb, and i regret ever doing it.
As far as removing the epoxy, stick the board in your freezer for a couple of hours. Then take it out and just twist the heatsink off with your hands. The intense cold makes the epoxy brittle.

My board did come with a heatsink but no fan , it was poorly on with some crap thermal tape i put it on better with the artic alumina thermal epoxy and then added a fan. The fan is rather loud when ever i unplug it , the heatsink on the NB gets very hot to the touch, and my cpu temps climb about 1.5C. Im thinking about just getting a different fan a quiter one of taking this heatsink off and putting a bigger old socket 370 on and see how it does just passivly.

OOT: my ram isnt stable at anything but 2.8 volts and 133mhz its pc2700 samsung , i run memtest and it comes up wiht a tons of errors at anything other then 2.8volts and 133mhz , is there anyway to fix it or should i get new ram. I bought it locally where i used to live.

I use a little 50mmx50mm copper heatsink and 7V 50mm fan on my 8K3A's northbridge. The heatsink was quite hot when I ran it passive, but seems about room temp now that I have a fan on it.
