Bleeding a system
Im having a problem bleeding my system of air.
I have not had this problem in the past, but this is my first system with a res, so Im not sure what I am doing wrong. Ive gone ahead and filled the system in a 2 gallon bucket, shaking the heatercore and pump to get all the air pockets out. I did this for about 2 hours and then closed my res underwater before taking everything out. Ive made sure all the hose clamps are down as far as they will go, and as far as I can tell there is no air seeping in. The problem is I can see air flowing into the res in pockets. What should I do? Thanks |
What setup are you using. Is your pump working correctly? Can you put a tube from pump to res, no block and see if the pockets are still there?

Is your res. the highest point in your system or somewhere inbetween? Also check the intake line on your pump and make sure that it is not sucking in air.

Actually, the res is at the bottom of my loop... it goes pump-core-block-res.
Ive checked the pump, and it is working fine... no air seems to be seeping in.... I think Im going to put the res near the top of the loop to see if I can fix this little problem.... Oh the res should be air tight correct? |
I found this post.
http://www.procooling.com/articles/h...___3_31_00.php Turns out the pump was a "sucker" and introduced air into the system. I myself have submerged pump. I don't have any air in the system per se from the get go. psychofunk brought this article to my attention. |
If your res. is the highest point of your loop, then the res does not have to be air tight. I even suggest that IF it is at the top, then make sure it is not air tight. That will allow natural evaporation to take place and prevent pressure build-up from forming inside your system.
This is what I have observed. |
I don't understand why submersed pumps aren't used more here. So they raise the water temp a couple of degrees. The trade off.. is no suckers of air, lower noise, a combo of res and pump for space. Frankly when your system runs at 30C, what is another 2C?
