Shroud or not? (ducting)
Hm Do i get better heat dissipation with a shroud ( ducting ) or the fan just mounted plain and simple on the Black ice.. and if how many degrees are we walking?

you definitely need some seperation between ur radiator and fan. At least am inch. What I have decided to do is use an old 120mm X 25mm fan and cut out the fan and motor housing, leaving the shell only. I am putting that betwwen my fan and the radiator.
As far as a shrouud... U want cool air in and hot air out w/o mixing w/ case air. Duct to that end and youll have success. |
Right behind the fan motor, there can be no airflow because the motor is there, blocking it. The center of the radiator gets no airflow. Spacing the radiator off the fan anywhere from a half inch to a bit over an inch will tremendously help. However, because air will be filling the general space, it is better to then have a duct to make sure that all air from the fan(s) goes through the radiator. In my case, I am using a shroud to put 4 80mm fans through a big momma. Here's what it looks like thus far (the final one will be outa sheet metal).

Ok well what is more efficient on the Black Ice.. Blowing or sucking fans? 8)
some people say blow some say suck.. but wich is the proven best way? :) damn nice shroud :) even if its out of a cardbor box :-) |

Actually if there is a lot of restriction blowing is better. A fan is better at creating pressure than it is at creating suction...

The best is of course, to have one on each side.
