Lucite=Polycarbonite????
Water blocks that use Lucite for the top (DangerDen Maze 3) is that the same as Polycarbonite?? I read on these forums that unlike Lexan, Polycarbonite is less prone to cracking when used for WB tops. I am looking at going with the Maze 3 and was looking at getting the Lucite topped block to cut down on weight (I have a NF7-S mobo that does NOT have the 4 special holes for oversized heatsinks/waterblocks) Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know for sure (cause I'm to lazy to google and my credibility is shot anyway :( ) but I think they're just brand names of the same thing, Lexan and Lucite, it's plexiglass/perspex that is more prone to crack...
I'm not a plastics expert (or ANYkindof) but my cruddy old maze 3 with the poly top is fine, don't treat the poly top as if it's metal and it'll live a long and prosperous existence... |
Lexan, Lucite, Plexiglass, Altuglass and so on are trade marks.
Polycarbonate is a molecule family. Depending on the exact formulation it could be Plexi or Lexan etc... |
Right!, I'm pretty sure Lexan and Lucite are 'toughened' whereas Plexiglass and Perspex are'nt, but not 100% :) ...

Like Gmat said, those are trade mark names. Lexan is one I know to be a polycarbonate blend. It's pretty stout stuff.

Hello Blackeagle!, have you gotten far in your H2o project yet?. I only saw that you found a supplier for Papst high pressure fans in the US a day or two ago!, I settled with three cheap YSTech 120s for now. I've been very lazy with my rig, it's been running in it's component parts spread across the top of a bench for the last two~three months! (I blame BF1942 myself, most 'absorbant' game I've found), but have been busy desoldering and resoldering my twin 120mm fan radiator for fitting incase (the shroud was on the wrong side for me ;) ). I need to mod my ehiem 1250 and make a GPU and NB blocks next but can't find copper anywhere!...
Did you get that Iwaki 30rzt?... |
lexan is a polycarbonate and is tough
lucite is an acrylic blend and is not tough save your self some headaches and don't use lucite on any waterblocks wj |
