Dual Lytron Madness!

Frag has a spare Lytron 6320 and I'm considering picking it up and adding it to my hope chest of doom in parallel with the one that is currently there. Am I insane to consider this? I estimate a 4C drop in peak temps due to backing off my bypass, but it would be a biznatch to mount this sucker. Any advice/input? Here is a link to the monster for those that don't know what the hell I'm talking about:

It might not be so bad if you stack those rads...

Sounds like a good idea to me: run as many of those things in parallel as possible, to try and compensate for the horrible restriction on waterflow they seem to impose.

Of course airflow and physical space will impose some restraint on whatever degree of enthusiasm you have toward following insanity in that direction... :)

I'm not worried about space. If you look at the box in my article, you'll notice that the current rad is inside. I'll just pop off the trimboard from the front, and mount the second one outside in the same place. With my two 10" caravels pulling, I'll get outstanding airflow, and the air will be pulled through each in series. The hoses will be threaded through a hole either on the front or the side of the chest.

Why dont you mount one rad on one side and then the other on the other side?

If you really wanted to get crazy, then you could get two LARGE fans on the opposing sides and force the air out of the box thus pulling air throught the rads into the box and out the sides.......

Air I would mount them face to face, with approx .25 - .5" space between. With ur dual AC fans of doom, you will have no problem getting air through there.

PS: My project is on halt because I can not get a White Wetter Water block.

I'd do it like Jtroutma says, cept I'd put them in series!! :D . I'd have the first/coldest air hitting the second rad in series and the warm/second air hitting the first rad...

Need a hefty pump though! :) ...

airspirit 03-24-2003 10:51 AM

You couldn't get any flow through these in series. I'm running a 1000+ GPH pump through a system with an average ID of around 3/4" ... these are only 1/2" ID, so running them in series would be a BAD idea, hehe.

As it looks, someone else might be picking up the rad from Frag, so unless they back out, I think I'll be staying with my current configuration. It's nice to dream, though ....
