motherboard standoff tap size

anyone know the tap size for those standard brass motherboard standoffs?

and more importantly where you can get one

i'm pretty sure the smallest one at lowes was too big, i forget what size it was though.

It depends, some have threads like "CDROM/Floppy screws", which are M3, I believe. Others are like "hard drive screws", which are 6-32, or possibly M4, I think they're interchangeable.

edit:4-40 is nearly identical to M3, but 6-32 is a bit smaller than M4--still close enough to work, in my experience.

As always, somebody correct me if I'm wrong. :D

relatively handy conversion table

Yeah, seems to be two sizes (in the USA) the coarse 6-32 (case screw size) and a finer thread, not sure, but I'm thinking 6-40.
