New User Needs MoBo Insulating Info.
I am building a new system with a closed loop microprocessor-controlled PWM regulated TEC.
Barton 2500+ / Asus A7N8X Deluxe Danger Den Maze 3, 220W TEC, Cube Radiator Eheim 1048, 1/2" Plumbing I need good resources for: -Mobo insulating / coating info. Can I spray the back of my MoBo w/ Lacquer? -Maze 3 Surface area, water flow / pressure drop, or heat transfer figures. |
Welcome to ProCooling!
This thread might be of some use... it maily deals with pelt cooling a GPU but the same principles will probably apply. http://forums.procooling.com/vbb/sho...&threadid=5442 Thats about all I can recommend. |
Thanks for the response -and the lead. I have read the thread and agree with the neoprene (if there are no unforseen electrical properties) but hesitate to jelly fill my system.
I have piddled with PCB circuits before and sprayed them with lacquer paint to protect them. Anyone know if that would be appropriate to protect a Mobo from condensation? |
I just wrote a review on the Swiftech TEC cooler which is posted over at SystemCooling.com. It covers the basics of insulating and the materials you might use.
Chillin' with the Swiftech MCW462-UHT TEC cooler The Swifty kit comes with foam insulation but you can buy it from several of the online cooling stores. Good luck... :) |
Thanks for all of the sound advice. Any insulating tips are good! I am reading your article now ...
also just ingested one at: http://www.benchtest.com I found the link by digging through this forum (Many, Many Hours) He has coated a Celeron adapter board with polyurethane wood protectant. Anyony coated a Mobo with polyurethane? |
RoboTech your article was informative, professional, and timely -Thank You. I did not even know acid free silicone existed. -Can it? I have dielectric grease for sealing sparkplug wires that I will use in the socket. -neoprene elsewhere.
Conformal coating is the key I have been searching for. I have seen the words here but thought about spray foam in my twisted mind. Radio Shack doesn't carry much these days for the circuit builder but mabye -just mabye... |
FYI: I had trouble finding conformal coating. (easily)
Here is what I am using...bought (1)ea. of both @ http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/start.shtml 1D273 Sprayon SO2000 Acrylic Sealer, 16 oz. aerosol $3.90 1D274 Sprayon SOO611 Electrical Spray, 16 oz. aerosol $5.07 |
